CTA to commission 14 rail stations

The FCT Administration has said it will soon commission 14 rail stations across the federal capital city and some satellite towns ahead of the completion of the Abuja Light Rail system in 2014.
FCT Minister Sen. Bala Mohammed stated this at the presentation of the scorecard of the administration at the ministerial platform in Abuja.
He said the FCTA has signed a $500 million loan agreement with a Chinese firm, EXIM to facilitate the implementation of the project which comprises the design and construction of 42.2 kilometer standard gauge railway tracks, pavement ways, station buildings, bridges and culverts and communication and signals for Lots 1A & 3 respectively.
The minister pledged to take cognizance of the provision of pedestrian bridges in strategic locations in the city in other to stop the carnage of accidents on the expressways.
He said 7,500 persons will be provided employment through the newly introduced SURE-P-assisted taxi scheme introduced by his administration which has also rehabilitated the NYSC camp.
