Magas, Mugus and Players : Setting things right

A lot of issues surrounds terms which the Nigerian society (Nigeria because this is where the first two names were coined and used) has chosen to call certain groups of guys and they are most times mistaken due to the fact that a lot of people do not take time to think about the meaning of these classifications. A lot of people do not know that a Maga is not a Mugu even though they have a lot of striking similarities and a Player is as different from the remaining two as night is different from day but we do not really see it (we dey wear 3D glasses most times).

Now I have asked around and gotten different opinions, most were of course over plates of catfish peppersoup and palmwine . It is amazing what sort of discussions comes up when guys sit down to eat stuff and talk about general issues. Now let’s examine each classification but please note that some men don’t belong to any of these while some belong to all three classes as a Maga with one girl can be a Playboy to another.

PLAYER: A player by the name is a guy who “plays” around with girls. The definition is simple but also has some stuff to it. A player is a seeker of both pleasure and fun. He enjoys female company without emotions but he tires of them so he always moves on to the next one and he treats each as a conquest he has to win. He knows what he wants the moment he steps up to a girl and he does not hide behind the curtain of friendship. It is not weird to see a playboy tell a girl he does not mind being a source of warmth when she needs it. Now a player can be rich, he might be broke or in between but one thing is sure, they all have confidence and so much boldness that it makes the girl curious to why he is so sure of himself (We already know curiosity is an effective tool ;P) it is this curiosity a player plays on and throw around to attract the girls he wants and sometimes, he picks up strays.

A player might spend money on a girl but he will not go overboard during his spending. He does not really care about what the girl needs or her personal issues and he is not willing to help her solve them. he is a fun seeker who is more into parties or the calm type who prefers intelligent discussions but he is careful with his money and a girl will hardly be able to bite into his finances except the one he is willing to throw away hell a player is more willing to spend on his friends than the girls he picks since he knows soon she will be replaced.

Maga: A Maga is like a player but a Maga rarely moves from one girl to another except he gets really tired or she disposes of him. A Maga is a guy who is just in it for the fun. Pleasure to a Maga is secondary although he is after it, he does not really think it is important. A Maga might be young (yes I said it) or old but he needs company or someone to talk to apart from the people in his life. A maga is that rich executive who a socialite for a wife who is bored with his home and does not want to talk to his colleagues or friends and so he gets a girl from outside to keep himself busy. He is a borderline depressed and he just needs to keep someone so when he feels down, he can be picked up by her and he gets cheerful again. A Maga does not mind spending money on the girls he is with because he has already budgeted for it just as you would for a shrink and he sees his money as an investment to his well being and he does not mind spending it.

A Maga is related to a man who builds a home in his hometown even though he only visits once a year. He just has the house in case he needs a place to retire to at the end of the year, a sort of vacation from the madness around him and that’s why you will hear of men who will pay for house rents of a young girl, furnish he house and might not visit her in three months. She is just there because of when he needs her.
