Last night, being the 1st of May, 2014 the Federal Capital Territory was shocked once more with an explosion suspected to be the handiwork of the Boko Haram group. This explosion is coming barely 2 weeks after the last attack at the ever busy Nyanya Bus Park, in which there was a great deal of loss of human lives and properties. The first bomb attack at the park was closely succeeded by the abduction of the female students in Chibok, Borno State under very mysterious circumstances.
These incidents, as unfortunate as they are, have occurred within the community of time of other relevant events that would make these acts of terrorism appear to be more of enemy action and less of a happenstance. The events are enumerated below.
1. The previous Nyanya park bomb blast occurred less than 48 hours to the PDP rally that was scheduled to be held in Kano State with the President in attendance.
2. The bombing was followed closely by the abduction of the schoolgirls under very mysterious circumstances that has generated probing questions from intelligent minds around the country.
3. Last night’s bombing occurred in precedence of the PDP Port Harcourt Rally that was scheduled to be held on the 3rd of May, 2014, where it is initially believed that the President would make statements concerning his second term bid.
An analysis of these cumulative events indicates that there are elements who are vehemently opposed to the President running for a second term in office and will do everything within their power and imagination to scuttle this ambition. I cannot categorically say who these elements are but it is clear from the reaction of the gullible Nigerians that they are slowly but steadily getting the desired result.
These people understand the power of incumbency and will try to level the playing ground by appealing to the emotions and sentiments of the people and the masses. They are trying desperately to frustrate his second term bid. If the President is handicapped from attending rallies today, how possible would it be for him to campaign tomorrow? Let us not play into this agenda.
There is an agenda to present President Goodluck Jonathan to Nigerians as a weakling who doesn’t not give a damn about the welfare and wellbeing of his people. This is why shortly after the Kano PDP rally which was held after first Nyanya bombing, photographs of the President were circulated of him in what seemed like the President was engaged in an egregious display of jamboree.
The Adamawa PDP rally was cancelled by the PDP as a mark of its responsibility and empathy for the disappearance of the phantom schoolgirls, whose identity cannot be provided or accounted for.
People should learn to analyze things critically before they pass judgments. Let us determine who the enemy truly is. Is it the President whose only crime is that he is a southerner who has decided to run for a second term in an elective office? Or is it those who have decided that they would embarrass the President out of office because his continued stay there does not suit their purpose?
Is it not rather curious that the Boko Haram menace has spiraled almost out of control during the 4 years tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan despite the amnesty offer of the government? That the government has been forced to allocate about 1 trillion naira to security to the detriment of infrastructural development reflects an agenda to undermine and scuttle the leadership of the President.
Let us all join hands and collectively oppose the bullying and desperate acts of power mongers who have vowed to maim us, waste our bloods and shed our lives just so that they can regain control of the government. Let us not play into their agenda and avail them of our emotions and sentiments to harass and embarrass the President of our great nation. Together we can unite and encourage the government of the Lion of Africa to take the bulls by the horns, defeat the born-to-rule opposition, contest at the polls, while damning the consequences. This is no longer about a southerner contesting for a second term in office, it is about equality, it is about justice, and it is about democracy.
