2018 World Cup: Ten Memorable Moments

$
0
0
An exciting 2018 World Cup came to an end as France beat Croatia in Sunday’s final in Moscow, but there have been a lot of unusual occurrences on the pitch and on the sidelines in Russia.

Russia 2018 will be remembered as a tournament where football dazzled, giants of the game suffered early exits, goals flew in late at an amazing rate and England relatively convinced football to come home

Today at CheapGoals we take a look at ten of the best offbeat stories from the 2018 World Cup

Robbie Williams Middle Finger

The prestigious Mundial commenced with Russia’s 5-0 whipping of Saudi Arabia, but it was former Take That star Robbie Williams who stole the headlines for exhibiting an odd gesture showing his middle finger to a TV camera amid the tournament opening ceremony.

Nobody is very certain why the Englishman was so angry, particularly considering he was invited to perform despite previously causing outrage in Russia with his song “Party Like a Russian“.

Russia 5- Saudi Arabia 0

From an unbiased fan’s point of view, the World Cup couldn’t have gotten off to a wonderful start. In spite of the fact that these tournaments are worldwide events, the fortunes of the host country, on the pitch, have a tendency to be firmly linked to the environment in which occasions unfurl.

Russian, down to each and every one, had no expectations from their own team. However, it appeared like the whole country was viewing Stanislav Cherchesov’s team go up against the unfenced Saudi side in the opening game.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud flanked FIFA president Gianni Infantino at Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium — giving the world a somewhat startling perspective without bounds of global football. The mood was a significant sure Russian nation quick to prove to the world that they could put a stunning show.

At the point when Alan Dzagoev, for a long time regarded as Russia’s most skilled player, went off injured in the first half, it appeared as if Russians would fare much the same as they have done in the recent past – demonstrating flashes of splendor but otherwise failing flat. But, Denis Cheryshev, the only Russian outfield player at a club outside Russia, scored the second goal before the break. Russia went rampaging, slamming in three more into the Saudi’s net to a comfortable win that would set the tone for things to come.

Maradona’s Two-Fingered Gesture

Argentina’s legend Diego Maradona will dependably be remembered as one of the best players ever for his exploits in 1986, but he turned into an increasing fascination for mockery in Russia.

The 57-year-old made a revolting signal from the VIP box to celebrate Argentina’s sensational 2-1 triumph over Nigeria which sent them into the knockout stages, drawing a lot of criticism.

Despite everything he still managed to keep himself in the spotlight even after Argentina’s exit at the hands of France, claiming that he would turn La Albiceleste fortunes around if given the role of a head coach, and afterward being rebuked by World football governing body (FIFA) in the wake of raving about the officials following Colombia’s loss to England.

Swiss Double Eagles

A politically-charged group clash between Switzerland and Serbia saw Swiss duo of Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka fined by FIFA for celebrating their goals by making a pro-Kosovan ‘Double Eagle’ gesture which dully represents the Albanian national flag.

Granit Xhaka and Liverpool’s new recruit Shaqiri follow their underlying roots to Kosovo, a former territory of Serbia where thousands were murdered and tens of thousands more pursued from their homes amid a 1998-1999 conflict between Serbian power forces and ethnic Albanian guerrillas.

Neymar Unprofessional Theatrics

Brazilain forward Neymar dominated plenty of the World Cup build-up with his battle to overcome a foot injury, but it was his feigning of injury that saw him turned into the butt of numerous jokes.

The Brazilian star exhibit plenty of his ability, scoring twice as the five-time champions reached the quarter-finals, but reliably and consistently play-acted in clear attempt to have opponent booked or sent off, having a dive to win a penalty toppled by VAR.

Mexico head coach Juan Carlos Osorio named the Paris Saint-Germain forward’s theatrics in Mexico round-16 loss to Brazil a “Disgrace for Football”.

Yuri Cortez’s Polished Skill

AFP photographer Yuri Cortez got himself literally at the center of Croatia’s jubilations after their triumphant goal in the semi-final clash against England but repelled his cool to take a stunning shot.

Croatian goalscoring hero Mario Mandzukic helped Cortez to his feet after he became engulfed by the players, while Domagoj Vida even gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Germany Exit

The emotional triumph over Sweden had football fans expecting that Germany may wind up unstoppable on their path to the final in Russia. However, in one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history, South Korea ended Joachim Low’s side quest before the knockout stages.

With the game bolted at 0-0 and Germany needing a win to qualify, Young-Gwon Kim strikes home from a corner and despite the fact that the goal was at first precluded for offside, a VAR review showed the ball falling off the foot of Toni Kroos and the decision was switched. After five minutes, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer humorously walked upfield and was dispossessed before Heung-Min Son fired into an open net.

Eric Ends Three Lions Dire Run

England won on penalties at a World Cup for the first time when getting through an emotional penalty shoot-out against Colombia in the last 16. It had a country getting up the following morning, asking the question: “Did That Truly Happen?”

Arsenal shot-stopper David Ospina saved Jordan Henderson’s penalty to put Colombia on the edge but Mateus Uribe fired his effort against the underside of the bar before Kieran Trippier reestablished parity.

A major left hand from Jordan Pickford at that point kept out Carlos Bacca’s savage effort – leaving Eric Dier to venture up and send the Three Lions to the quarter-final. London went potty. Then, football appeared to be coming home.

Japan Awesome Ethics

Japanese fans had earned themselves a reputation for being the most deferential and respectful fans during 2014 World Cup when they cleaned the stands and washrooms after their group games in Germany. The Blue Samurai faithful indeed earned accolades and respect in this World Cup as they cleaned the stadium in Rostov-on-Don before leaving for home.

What makes this significantly more mind-blowing is that the Japanese fans had recently witnessed their side throw away a 2-goal lead and lose to injury time goal against Belgium in the round of 16. Through tears, sadness, and sorrow, the supporters remained consistent with their ethics and ensured the stadium was left spotless. The fans had likewise done same amid their three group games

The Japanese team showed unimaginable goodwill upon their exit from 2018 greatest sporting event. Regardless of the tears streaming after the final whistle, the players and staff left the changing room totally clean alongside a note with the caption: “Thank You” in Russian.

Dawn Of A New Era

With the trouble of the previous glory comes the hope for future delights. This has been a magnificent Mundial for those putting their confidence in youth. A bold England frees themselves of long stretches of penalty shootout jinx by playing a team that had no memory of those painful defeats.

Gareth Southgate had the memories but missed the penalty that put England out of Euro ’96 when football was first expected to get back home. Perhaps he paid the price for that slip-up all through his career. His experience and vision were executed really well by a team of extremely young England players.

Meanwhile, Belgium, Switzerland, France even — Nigeria producing one of the youngest team — a new generation of young players is being celebrated.

A multicultural generation that mirrors the numerous tints of present-day democratic society. The Kylian Mbappes, the Dele Allis, and the Romelu Lukakus of the world — are destined to immigrants. In their battles for survival, ten of thousands see to the struggle of their own lives. How they are accepted — as French, English and Belgian immigrants regardless of their race, ethnic background to start with, black or white later — football impacts the world with peace and unity in genuine ways.

Football is truly a beautiful game.

2019: I don’t care which party returns me to Senate – Akpabio
— 17th July 2018
Joe Effiong, Uyo

Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has said the party platform on which he will contest for his second term ticket for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in 2019 will not matter much.

Speaking at an endorsement rally in his honour and Governor Udom Emmanuel by Ikot Ekpene senatorial district yesterday, Akpabio said he had to play down on the issue of party because he believed any party under which he will contest the election would guarantee him victory.

Read also: The second term aroma and 2019

Addressing a huge crowd at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, Akpabio said: “Don’t worry about election; election is all about voting. Today, you notice that I did not shout too much about party because you have endorsed Akpabio as an unopposed candidate. And this unopposed candidate cuts across all the political parties.

“Whether you call it CUPP – Coalition of United Political Parties or whether it is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), no matter the political party, we are saying Let God’s will be done, again. For diverse tendency; for those who want to divide us, let God Almighty not allow them.”

While justifying his desire to return to the Senate to consolidate what he called “uncommon representation,” Akpabio reeled out some of the 68 projects he has attracted to his senatorial district in the past three years to include boreholes, market stalls in all the 10 local government areas of the district, 274 students on scholarship who receive, at least, N100,000 a year, a major road linking the greater part of the senatorial district.

On his part, Governor Emmanuel, while thanking the people for his second term endorsement, said the exercise was a show of appreciation, and promised he will not take it for granted.

Online Publications Taking Our Jobs – Bauchi Newspaper Vendors

Newspaper vendors in Bauchi say they are facing hard times following a drop in sales of newspapers as a result of the advent of online publications.

‎Some of them, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday said that they were almost thrown out of job as most of them had to look for other means of sustaining themselves and their families.

One of them, Sani Ismaeel, lamented the development, saying he had been reflecting with nostalgia, the ‘good old days’ when they were in ‘real business’.

“I have been a newspaper vendor for over 15 years but vendors now have challenge of lack of sales; with the advent of online publications, people have now resorted to reading online newspapers.

‎“This has adversely affected the sales of newspapers, leaving us helpless; in those years, I make at least N30, 000 daily, now I hardly make N3000 a day.

‎“This is affecting me economically; I cannot meet up with my family obligations, which are essential,” he said.

‎ Another Vendor, Rilwanu Ubale, said prominent customers noted for buying newspapers, and who even booked for same in advance in those days, no longer do same.

‎“I can sit here the whole day without making N4000, unlike 10 years ago, when I used to make 30,000 to N40, 000 daily.

‎“My means of livelihood is at stake; I find it difficult to cater for my family now,” he lamented..

‎‎Musa Ahmed, a Vendor, told NAN that he had been selling newspapers in Bauchi for 15 years but never had it bad until the advent of online papers.

“Honestly, we have had a drop of not less than 70 percent in sales and I have no over job than this one.

‎“It is the only means for securing the basic necessities for the family; we are going through hell now and I am in a dilemma,” he said.

‎Babayo Adamu, another vendor, explained that the drop in the sales of newspaper would sooner than later sweep all of them out of job.

‎“It is not business as usual; definitely, it is never a happy moment for us; we will be here from morning till night, but make nothing significant,” he said.

‎‎Abdullahi Ahmed, a media practitioner, said that the economic situation in the country, coupled with the emergence of the new media, is making the print media shrink, both in number and circulation.

‎“At the rate at which sales of newspapers is dropping on a daily basis, we shall soon wake up to find out that newspaper vendors had gone extinct because the job no longer pays,” he said.

A newspaper reader, Bulus Kazhi, said online papers were making headway.

‎“They deploy the use of social media to circulate wider and faster, on twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, and so on.

‎“The news is broken as it is happening, whereas, the mainstream newspapers have to wait to report it the following day, and the reader may not want to read stories that happened a day before.

‎“Some print media even quote online sources in their stories; by the time the print goes to press, more news is breaking,” he said.

World Reacts To Trump Accepting A Soccer Ball Souvenir From Putin (Photos)

The timing at Monday's press conference in Helsinki was too perfect. Right after Russian president Vladimir Putin answered a question on cooperative efforts in Syria and whether the ball is "in the Russian court," he stopped the discussion to present something to President Donald Trump — a soccer ball. The "gift" from Putin turned a metaphor about political positioning into a literal stance on sports, as the world leaders shifted the attention to the World Cup.

Speaking about having the ball in our court in Syria, President Trump has just mentioned that we've successfully concluded the World Football Cup. Speaking of the football, actually..."
Putin said, trailing off, stepping away from the podium to pick up a 2018 World Cup soccer ball, according to ABC News.

"Mr. President, I will give this ball to you, and now the ball is in your court."

The soccer ball from Putin immediately prompted skeptical social media reactions from both lawmakers and the public.

'No More Delegates List'— All Registered APC Members To Vote At Primary

"We have resolved that the governorship election in Osun State will be conducted on the basis of direct primary, which means every card carrying members of our party will participate in the process of nominating the flagbearer of the party who will contest governorship election on our party's platform," Oshiomhole said. The delegates list is usually the source of acrimony at primaries, with losers often accusing the party leadership of smuggling names onto the list or outright replacing the existing one.

Baring last minute change, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will adopt the process of direct primary to choose its governorship candidate for the Osun State governorship election.

The National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, made this known on Monday in Abuja after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

He noted that the process will enable the card-carrying members of the party to have a say and participate in the selection of the candidate will fly the party's flag, instead of the few delegates to determine the selection.
The delegates list is usually the source of acrimony at primaries, with losers often accusing the party leadership of smuggling names onto the list or outright replacing the existing one

"We have decided, in order to ensure popular participation and deepen democracy in Osun State, that the primary election in line with the provisions of our constitution, which allows for either direct or indirect primary.

"We have resolved that the governorship election in Osun State will be conducted on the basis of direct primary, which means every card carrying members of our party will participate in the process of nominating the flagbearer of the party who will contest governorship election on our party's platform."

According to Oshiomhole, this is the most democratic way to conduct election, and is in line with the yearnings of critical stakeholders.

"The more we allow our party members to participate in the process of nominating candidate, the more we will eliminate the issue of corruption or monetising the processes of nominating candidate in addition to the fact that party members will have sense of ownership of the outcome of the exercise," he said.

In order to ensure that exercise is conducted by very competent men and women of proven character and integrity and who cannot be compromised, Oshiomhole said the NWC had nominated the Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, to lead a panel that will organise the primary election in Osun State.

"He is incidentally the Chairman of Governors' Forum; given his status and his pedigree, we have no doubt that no one can compromise him and he will approach this exercise in line with the spirit of our constitution," e said.
"He will be working with four other persons of integrity and any other person they want to co-opt to assist them to ensure the primary is conducted hitch-free and the outcome lays a foundation for popular mobilisation for Osun electorate.

"Our democracy has to grow and our constitution anticipates and allows participatory primaries; we are proud that now the people of Osun State are ready to allow party members rather than party caucus to determine who will fly our flag. That is more democratic."

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Monday constituted a legal committee to look into all the legal issues surrounding the conduct of the Ekiti governorship election.

This is part of its preparation to challenge the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

In his words, “PDP as a party has constituted a legal committee to look into all the legal angles to the issues surrounding the Ekiti governorship election with a view to institute appropriate legal actions.

“We want to assure our members that we have nothing to fear with the circumstances that happened in Ekiti state, and to let them know that the we have taken a decision to go the length of all judicial processes in the electoral situation in the state.

“The entire nation is standing with the PDP. We believe that Nigerians know the truth of what happened. Nigerians know that votes were bought in Ekiti state. Nigerians are aware that there was humiliation of our party members. We are aware that there was brutalization of our party members.

“Nigerians are also aware that this government led by the ruling APC, having failed woefully has no capacity to stand for a true election anywhere in this nation. And that is why they have colluded with security agencies and INEC and even within their party, APC, to make sure that they rig us out of Ekiti.

“But we have not seen the end of it. Like we said earlier on, this political banditry will not stand, at all.

“We, therefore, ask our teeming members to remain resolute as there is nothing to panic about. It is just a temporary setback. But we assure our members that the political brigandage will never stand”.

However, reacting, Fani-Kayode, a stark critic of the present All Progressives Congress, APC, administration condemned Buhari for refusing to allow the Middle Belt leaders to fly into Benue.

Writing on his Twitter page, the former minister wondered why President Buhari is afraid of the unity between the South and Middle belt region.

“I condemn Buhari for refusing to allow the chartered plane that was conveying Southern leaders to the Middle Belt Summit in Makurdi today to land at the Makurdi Airforce Base.

“Consequently, they could not attend the meeting. Why are they scared of Southern and Middle Belt unity?”

10 Grammar Mistakes You Should Avoid

$
0
0
If you want to write clear, correct English, you certainly need to pay attention to the grammar rules. To help you with that, we collaborated with the folks from Grammarly and Write To Done to create a list with 30 common grammar mistakes you should avoid. Enjoy!

Mistake 1: Using whom as a subject

INCORRECT: Fire personnel radioed deputies to stop the driver, whom, according to reports, appeared to have been under the influence of intoxicants.
CORRECT : Fire personnel radioed deputies to stop the driver, who, according to reports, appeared to have been under the influence of intoxicants.

In this sentence, the pronoun is the subject of the verb appeared and therefore requires the subject form who. The object form of who is whom, which functions as the object of a verb or as the object of a preposition:

"That is the man whom I saw at the window. (object of the verb saw)

Did he say to whom he sent the letter? (object of the preposition to)"

The misuse of whom as a subject frequently occurs when a phrase intervenes between the pronoun and its subject. Be especially careful with such expressions as “according to so-and-so,” “in my opinion,” “one suspects,” etc. Less frequently, but more embarrassingly, whom is sometimes substituted for who when little or nothing stands between it and its verb, as in this sentence taken from a news account: “An off-duty fireman whom lives in the area provided immediate assistance.”

Mistake 2: Unnecessary would in a wish about the past

INCORRECT: Ten Things I Wish I Would Have Known When I Was Twenty
CORRECT : Ten Things I Wish I Had Known When I Was Twenty

The opportunity for knowing the ten things existed in the past, but exists no longer. The tense required, therefore, is the past perfect (had + past participle).

Mistake 3: Dangling modifier

INCORRECT: At the age of four, Sam’s family moved from Florida, Missouri, to Hannibal.
CORRECT : At the age of four, Sam moved with his family from Florida, Missouri, to Hannibal.

Modifiers should be positioned as closely as possible to the element they modify. The modifying phrase “At the age of four” modifies “Sam,” not “Sam’s family.”

Mistake 4: Subject-Verb disagreement with delayed subject

INCORRECT: There goes Sally and Greg on their way to the movies.
CORRECT : There go Sally and Greg on their way to the movies.

Subjects and verbs must agree in number. When a sentence begins with here or there, the true subject of the sentence follows the verb. “Sally and Greg” is a plural subject, so the verb go must also be plural: “Sally and Greg go.”

Mistake 5: Incorrect use of object pronouns

INCORRECT: Me and my brothers all have college degrees in business.
CORRECT : My brothers and I all have college degrees in business.

Several English pronouns retain different forms that indicate their function in a sentence. Me is an object form. In the example, it is incorrectly used as the subject of the verb have. Other object forms often used incorrectly are him, her, us, them, and whom.

Mistake 6: Incorrect use of subject pronouns

INCORRECT: The owner was most kind to my wife and I as we toured the grounds.
CORRECT : The owner was most kind to my wife and me as we toured the grounds.

I is a subject pronoun form. It is correctly used as the subject of a verb. Its object form is me, which is used as the object of a verb or, as in this example, the object of a preposition (to). Not all English pronouns retain an object form. The pronouns that do have subject and object forms are he/him, she/her, we/us, they/them, and who/whom.

Mistake 7: Inappropriate use of reflexive pronoun forms

INCORRECT: Jack and myself built the company from scratch.
CORRECT : Jack and I built the company from scratch.

A pronoun that ends in -self or -selves is called a reflexive pronoun. This type of pronoun refers to a noun or personal pronoun that occurs elsewhere in the sentence. For example, “He cut himself shaving.” In this example, himself refers to the same person as the one meant by He. A typical error is to use a reflexive pronoun in place of a personal pronoun:

INCORRECT: Thank you for everything you did for myself and my family.
CORRECT : Thank you for everything you did for me and my family.

Note: A more polite usage is to put me last in the phrase: Thank you for everything you did for my family and me.

Mistake 8: Incorrect use of did instead of had in certain “if clauses”

One use of the conjunction if is to introduce a clause that states an action that would have changed an outcome. For example, “If I hadn’t missed the train, I would be in London now.” A common error is to use did instead of had, as in this headline:

INCORRECT: [Celebrity] thinks he would be dead now if he didn’t give up alcohol and drugs
CORRECT : [Celebrity] thinks he would be dead now if he hadn’t given up alcohol and drugs

The person mentioned in the headline actually said (correctly), “I honestly don’t think I’d be alive if I hadn’t stopped drinking.” The tense required is the past perfect (had + past participle).

Mistake 9: Incorrect irregular verb forms

Most English verbs form the past and past participle by adding -ed to the base form. For example:
walk, walked, (has) walked
believe, believed, (has) believed
jump, jumped, (has) jumped

However, a few high-frequency verbs have irregular past forms, for example:
run, ran, (has) run
go, went, (has) gone
come, came, (has) come

Errors with irregular verb forms are becoming common in the media and in articles written by university graduates. Such errors are perhaps evidence that elementary school teachers no longer drill their students on the irregular verb forms. Here are typical errors:

INCORRECT: Mary loves to read, has ran for office and has an articulate way of telling it like it is.—Biographical note, KZNU.
CORRECT : Mary loves to read, has run for office and has an articulate way of telling it like it is.

INCORRECT: Deluna-Martinez is alleged to have went into one student’s account and dropped that student’s classes.—News item, KRCR
CORRECT : Deluna-Martinez is alleged to have gone into one student’s account and dropped that student’s classes.

INCORRECT: Deep Impact could have just so happened to hit one of these cometesimals, while the gas seen before impact might have came from a different region on the comet with different chemistry.—Scientific article, NASA site.
CORRECT : Deep Impact could have just so happened to hit one of these cometesimals, while the gas seen before impact might have come from a different region on the comet with different chemistry.

Note: A cometesimal is a “mini-comet.”

Mistake 10: Omitting that when it is needed after say

When there is no intervening conjunction, that may be omitted after the verb say:

"The witness said she overheard the defendant threaten to burn the man’s house down.

However, if a conjunction such as after, although, because, before, in addition to, until, or while intervenes between the verb say and its object, that is needed to avoid ambiguity:

INCORRECT: Santana said after he stopped recording, he watched for a few more minutes but never saw anyone perform CPR.
CORRECT : Santana said that after he stopped recording, he watched for a few more minutes but never saw anyone perform CPR.

Dark lips are mostly caused by dehydration, smoking, overexposure to the sun and other unwholesome lifestyle habits. You may even notice dark spots on your lips, which are usually just lip freckles. Whatever may be causing your lips to go dark, Jumia, the online store you can trust, shares tips on how to effectively get rid of them.

Exfoliate with sugar

[img][/img]

Dry dead skin can make your lips look dull and dark. Exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells from your lips. You can use sugar to make an effective scrub.

Honey

Honey is not only tasty, it can also be used to get rid of dark lips because it can draw moisture to the surface. But that’s not all, honey also has healing properties. It helps repair wounds and promotes healing in sunburns. So, if you have sun damaged or chapped and split lips, honey can be helpful.

Cucumber juice

Chop/ blend cucumber, strain to get the juice and apply the juice all over lips daily. The difference will be obvious after a few weeks of daily use.

Nigeria Airforce Speaks On Refusal To Allow An Aircraft Land At Its Makurdi Base

$

The attention of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has sadly been drawn to allegations that it prevented a chartered flight from landing at its Base in Makurdi on 16 July 2018, for political reasons. There is absolutely no iota of truth in the allegations that NAF’s decision was politically motivated. To start with, the runway at NAF Base Makurdi is not a dual user facility but one constructed strictly for military purpose. Accordingly, in line with global best practices, there is a clearly established procedure for non-NAF aircraft to operate into and out of the runway in Makurdi, and that procedure is well known to all qualified pilots in Nigeria. Indeed, many airlines had in the past adhered to the stipulated procedure and therefore successfully landed and taken off from the NAF runway in Makurdi. The procedure includes a written request to NAF Headquarters Abuja for permission for a specific aircraft to operate into its airfield on a specific date and time, including the names of passengers and other necessary details.

In this case, there was indeed a request for permit by the Benue State Government, dated 16 July 2018, for Aircraft with Registration Number 5N-FCT to land at NAF Base Makurdi on 16 July 2018. Although requests for landing permits are expected to reach NAF Headquarters not later than two days before the desired landing date, the NAF went out of its way to expedite the process and accordingly granted the permit for aircraft with Registration Number 5N-FCT to land at NAF Base Makurdi on 16 July 2018. However, at about 5pm on 16 July 2018, the NAF was verbally informed that there was a need to change the aircraft for which permission had already been issued, reportedly because the aircraft had developed snags. The NAF, therefore, asked for another written request, in line with the established procedure. As at date, the NAF Headquarters is yet to receive a written request for the replacement aircraft with Registration Number 5N-IZY to land at its Base in Makurdi.

For the avoidance of doubts, the NAF does not concern itself with political or religious affiliations of individuals/organizations in granting landing rights at its airfields. The issue of security and safety remains uppermost particularly while noting that the ongoing Operation WHIRL STROKE is largely being coordinated from NAF Base Makurdi, with fighter aircraft flying in and out of the Base. The NAF remains a highly professional and apolitical organization that would rather focus on its military duties. Consequently, the NAF wishes to implore all concerned to desist from dragging the name of the NAF into partisan politics.
