South-East Governors Write Buhari: 'Ban Herders With No Cattle & Cattle By Foot'

Governors in South East, Nigeria, have written to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him to ban the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the region, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the governors are also asking the President to delay the closure of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, and act against insecurity instead.

Igbere TV had reported that the Federal Government, last week, said it was shutting down the Enugu airport for “major repairs” on the “faulty” runway.

This is even as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced that it was degrading the airport for international operations owing to its “runway length”.

But in the letter made available to Igbere TV on Wednesday, the governors are asking the President to rather approve its earlier decision banning herders who have no cattle, as well as the movement of cattle by foot in the South East.

The move is coming three days after Senator Ike Ekweremadu, from the region, was attacked in Germany, by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to the governors, they decided to make the letter public to assuage public allegations that they were not doing enough to check growing insecurity in the region.

Recall that the IPOB had accused the South East governors and other top political leaders in the region of sell out, saying they have never acted on insecurity in the zone.

“We plead with Mr. President that we publish this letter to assuage our people’s feelings who erroneously think that no efforts are being made by the leaders of the South East to tackle insecurity and economic challenges facing the zone and to let them know that her leaders before now have been working very hard without making noise as issues of security must not be discussed in the public,” the letter partly read.

The letter was signed by Mr. David Umahi, Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, on behalf of other governors in the region.

EFCC Denies Planning To Plant Foreign Currencies At Ambode’s Residence

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied planning to plant foreign currencies at the home of former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

The anti-graft agency’s operatives stormed Mr Ambode’s residence in his hometown of Epe on Tuesday morning following the freezing of the sum of N9.9 billion allegedly linked to him, Igbere TV reports.

They were soon greeted by angry protesters who prevented them from coming out of their vehicles.

In a statement on Tuesday by EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, the commission said it obtained a valid warrant to search Ambode’s residence.

It said that its operatives were attacked and vehicle vandalised.

“The Commission had obtained valid warrant to conduct search on Ambode’s residences in Park View, Ikoyi and country home in Epe, as part of ongoing investigation of alleged malfeasance,” the statement began.

“However, the Commission’s operatives were attacked and prevented from executing the search warrant in Epe by irate youths who injured three officers and damaged EFCC official vehicle.

“The attack was totally unprovoked as the Commission’s operatives were civic and did not molest anybody.

“The Commission therefore frowns at the attempt to manipulate the video of the search to create the wrong impression that officers of the agency molested residents at the Epe home of the governor.

“It is also not true that the search, was an attempt to plant foreign currencies in the home of the former governor.”

Ambode has called for calm after the botched search at his Epe residence.

By Magaji Isa Hunkuyi,

The chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Ibbi local government area and seven other people, including an Islamic cleric, were arrested by the Police in connection with a wanted kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Wadume’s case.

The APGA chairman, said to be a close friend of Wadume, had led seven other members of the party from Ibbi and an Islamic cleric to DCP Abba Kyari over Wadume case.

Daily Trust gathered that Abba Kyari ordered for the arrest of the APGA chairman and seven others over their attempt to lobby for the wanted suspected kidnapper.

They were said to be detain in Abuja and Kyari, it was gathered, had warned residents of Ibbi that the investigation penal was in the town for serious duty.

A source said Kyari and all the panel members were still in the area conducting investigation over the matter.

Kyari, the source further stated, had told the chief of Ibbi during a meeting that innocent persons in Ibbi had nothing to fear over the ongoing investigation.

Sources in the area also informed Daily Trust that 14 days after the attempt to arrest Wadume, no single kidnapping had been recorded in the area.

One of the sources, Nuhu Noka, told Daily Trust that the problem of Kidnapping along Wukari-Takum road, which was a daily affair, had subsided and no single kidnapping was recorded in the last two weeks.

6 Ways Companies Can Reduce Staff Turnover And Boost Productivity

$

0
A lot of companies lose millions yearly due to a high turnover rate of their staff.

It takes money to replace and train replacements and this is why businesses should endeavour to reduce their staff turnover rate.

Here are some reasons employees keep leaving and what you can do easily to increase staff retention.

1. Consider culture fitness while hiring:

Yes, it is important to hire highly skilled individuals but also pay attention to the detail of culture fit. Does this individual fit well with your company's values?

You can ask questions to test their behavioural responses to scenarios during the hiring process and to even go the extra mile, show them around your business and pay close attention to how they respond to the environment.

Hiring the right people will help reduce the turnover rate and ensure your employees fit in easily.

2. Offer competitive staff benefits and rewards.

More than just their take-home, giving proper staff benefit goes a long way to ensuring the turnover rate in a company is reduced.
Many employees want benefits and may decide to jump ship if they see another company who offers them even slightly less pay than you are, but with greater benefits.
Things like transportation, healthcare, paid vacations and others go a long way to keeping staff happy and reducing the turnover rate.

3. Pay staff on time:

Owed staff are unhappy staff. The bills are waiting at the end of the month whether you like it or not.
Paying staff early or setting up a system to pay staff when due, ensures they put in their best and makes it even less attractive for them to look outside.

4. Recognize hard work and effort with commendations:

For every major stride, positive reinforcement goes a long way to showing staff they are appreciated and makes most of them put in the extra work.
A company that truly appreciates the hard work of its staff sees a reduced turnover rate and boost in productivity more than one that operates seemingly oblivious of the effort they make.

5. Make working hours are flexible:

Before we became workers, we were first human. It is important to be flexible and understanding with working hours as long as the output is kept in focus. Helping your staff find a good work-life balance by making sure they have flexible working hours will not only reduce turnover rate but increase the overall branding of your company as they will definitely share the good news about how flexible their hours are.

6. Onboard properly:

Staff onboarding is something that has to be done right. It might seem like a process that can be skipped but it is well known that those who are on-boarded properly settle in and come up to speed way quicker than those who aren't.

Onboarding bridges the knowledge and culture gap between the old and new staff and ensures everyone is carried along in the direction of the company's vision and goals.

Why APC Will Fizzle Out With President Buhari In 2023 - Shehu Sani

$

– Senator Shehu Sani is of the opinion that the ruling APC will fizzle out in 2023

– The senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, said the APC was built with resentment towards the PDP

– Senator Sani said the ruling APC is not different from the party they overthrew from government in 2015

The senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which started with President Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate will fizzle out in 2023.

He said the future of Nigeria is dependent on having a political party with credible leadership and a clear ideological direction of which the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) represents.

According to The Guardian, the lawmaker made the remarks on Tuesday, August 20, while receiving the executive members of the PRP on a courtesy call to his residence in Kaduna. They were led by the state’s party chairman, Hon. AbdulRahman Haruna Danbirni.

The executive members, who briefed Senator Sani on the party’s upcoming national convention, also called on him to contest for the party’s national chairmanship position, hailing his achievements while representing Kaduna Central at the Senate.

Senator Sani, however, noted that one of the major tasks before PRP remains the reformation of the party for “men of honour and integrity to take over relevant positions and win elections in 2023 in order to free Nigerians from deception, fraud, and misrepresentation of which the ruling APC is notorious.”

The lawmaker said the ruling “APC begins with President Buhari and it will end with Buhari,” adding that there is no ideological relationship between the masses and the ruling party.

His words: “APC is not a party that is founded on ideology; it is a party that is found on resentment against PDP and it is also a party that is founded under the banner of President Buhari. It is unfortunate for all the promises and pledges of cleaning, reforming and reconfiguring this country; the ruling APC had failed.

They have failed in their pledge to revamp the economy. They have failed to respect the rule of law and fundamental rights of citizens. They have failed in their promises to uphold the honour of the common man. They have failed in their promises to lay a good example for compliance with democratic values and progressive governance.

“The ruling APC is not different from the party they overthrew, and that is why so many people have left the party. Most of the people who are in APC today are going back to PDP. They are with Buhari because he is in power. And they will leave Buhari the very day he leaves power.

“They are not with Buhari because of his ideas, integrity, and thinking. Where were they in 2003, 2007 and 2011? They were with PDP. Buhari will not know who his friends or enemies are until he is out of power.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has asked members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to consider joining the APC before they die.

Osinbajo jokingly made the comment at a dinner to mark the 80th birthday celebration of former national chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Abba Kyari Under Fire Over New Role From Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari and his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari have come under fire following a directive by the President to Ministers-designate, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that President Buhari on Tuesday, directed the incoming Ministers to channel all requests for meetings with him through Mr Kyari.

Buhari gave the directive at the end of the two-day special retreat for Ministers-designate and other top government functionaries at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

“In terms of coordination, kindly ensure that all submissions for my attention or meeting requests be channelled through the Chief of Staff (CoS), while all Federal Executive Council matters be coordinated through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),” Buhari had said.

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to comment on the issue, with many taking a swipe at the President and describing him as a ‘TV', with Kyari as the ‘Remote’ control.

This is even as some have put up some meme describing the CoS as Nigeria's ‘de-facto president’, and vice president Yemi Osinbajo as Buhari’s ‘Special Adviser on TraderMoni.’

Revolution Now: Court Declined To Order The Release Of Omoyele Sowore

The Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, declined to order the release of Omoyele Sowore and other persons in connection with the RevolutionNow protest.

Sowore was picked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, for calling for the RevolutionNow protest.

The presiding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, on Tuesday, declined to release Sowore until the court has heard from the Federal Government, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

He ordered the DSS and IGP to appear before him on September 4 to show cause why Sowore and other protesters in detention should not be immediately released.

The judge also ordered Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, who filed the ex-parte application seeking the detainees’ release, to put the IGP and DSS on notice, The Nation reports.

Ogungbeje, who said he participated in the #RevolutionNow protest but was barred along with other people in Lagos from carrying out their constitutional right, filed the application on behalf of himself and other participants.

He prayed the court to declare as “unconstitutional and illegal police clampdown on the protesters and the arrest of Sowore by the DSS.”

He also sought an order for the immediate and unconditional release of those arrested and detained.

Joined as respondents in the application where the Federal Government, the DSS and the IGP.

Giving reasons why the arrested persons should be immediately and unconditionally released, Ogungbeje said, “There has been a grave constitutional infraction committed by the respondents against the applicant and other persons who engaged in the peaceful protest for good governance in Nigeria.”

The lawyer said he was deprived of his constitutionally-guaranteed right to peaceful assembly and association and the right to freedom of expression.

“On the 3rd of August, 2019, the convener of the protest, Mr Omoyele Sowore’s residence was forcefully invaded and put under siege; he was arrested, whisked away and detained in the detention facility of the 2nd respondent (DSS).

“Mr Omoyele Sowore has not committed any offence known to law to warrant the infringement and likely infringement of rights by the respondents.

“By engaging in the peaceful protest, the applicant and other persons have not committed any offence known to law to warrant the treatment meted out to them by the respondents and their agents,” Ogungbeje said.
