Liverpool Vs Arsenal (3 - 1) Full Time

First real test for Arsenal!

The Gunners have also enjoyed a perfect start to their season thanks to wins over Newcastle and Burnley but the trip to Merseyside will comfortably represent their toughest test of the year so far.

The Reds thrashed Norwich 4-1 in the Premier League curtain-raiser before edging past Southampton 2-1 on Saturday thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, although they did need penalties to claim the Super Cup against Chelsea in Istanbul.

The pair will clash on Saturday August 24, the fourth time in five seasons that they two teams have been scheduled to meet before the beginning of September.
Despite their repeated early-season clashes with the Gunners, Liverpool have not lost to Arsenal in August since 2002.
This time around, the two Premier League giants will face off in the final game of Saturday's schedule, kicking off at 5.30pm in Liverpool.

Liverpool vs Arsenal team news
Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker did not even make it to half-time in Liverpool's season opener against Norwich, coming off with a calf injury after just 39 minutes of his Premier League campaign.
He has a suspected grade two tear and is not expected to be fit for the Arsenal clash. Instead, deadline day signing Adrian will continue to deputise in goal.
Nathaniel Clyne and Naby Keita also remain unavailable.

For Arsenal, Granit Xhaka could return after missing the Burnley win due to 'bruising to his lower back and leg' while Mesut Ozil's status remains unclear after the personal issues and illness which have marred his start to the Premier League season.
Rob Holding is back training with the first team and played for the Under-23s last week but has been out for eight months and is unlikely to be rushed back into top-flight action.
Hector Bellerin, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Kieran Tierney are all longer-term injury concerns.

Anthony Taylor has been tasked with handling Liverpool's big clash with Arsenal this weekend.

The Mancunian referee has not taken charge of a fixture between the two since he oversaw Arsenal's 4-1 win over Liverpool in April 2015.

‘Nnamdi Kanu Didn’t Order Attack Of South-East Governors Abroad’ - Lawyer

$

Counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu; Barrister Aloy Ejimakor has debunked news making rounds that his client ordered violence or physical attack on Southeast Governors overseas.

In a statement by Ejimakor, stated that what the IPOB leader told his supporters is elected leaders from Nigeria and Southeast in particular who prefer junketing and gallivanting abroad instead of working for the electorate should be ready to answer tough questions from Nigerians and the people of Southeast in general who are in Diaspora.

According to Kanu’s lawyer, the questioning by the Diasporan Easterners and Nigerians isn’t going to be violent, but that the people will embark on protest to register their grievances.

The statement read, “I write as the Special Counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and I can tell you authoritatively that my Clients, particularly Nnamdi Kanu never made any threats of levying violence or to “physically attack” SE Governors or elected officials when sighted overseas.

“What Kanu had said, and it’s verifiable, is that Nigerian elected officials, especially those from SE (including Governors), who derelict and still derelict their duties to the people and prefer to junket and gallivant abroad should be ‘prepared to answer tough questions from the Nigerian/SE Diaspora’.

“And such engagements will be up close and personal; or as American say: in your face. It’s left to conjecture why Umahi-led SE Governors, more than all others, are the ones getting too personal with this.

“In plain terms, the so-called threat is not of violence or battery but of gutsy demonstrations or protests, of tough questions or heckling, of getting really close to the target. Therefore, Kanu never threatened or sanctioned any threat of actual physical violence, assault or battery, or anything that is illegal or criminal. And he had also stated that you don’t have to be afraid if you have done nothing wrong.

“So, what I believe that is fueling this misconstruing the true import of what Kanu had said is this: Nigerians at home hardly carry their protests to the face of their elected officials. They do complain but they do ever so quietly and seem to be cowed in the immediate vicinity or presence of these officials. Still, this is a dramatic departure from the era of Jonathan when Nigerians were permitted much space to protest as they desired.

“The Nigerian diaspora is different. They demonstrate to your face, they heckle you, they come very close and express their discontent in uncomfortable words and actions that these officials are not used to back home but which, however, comport with how citizens of those foreign nations protest or confront their leaders in the public.

“I think Nigerians, particularly Igbos need to see the Ekweremadu incident in Germany from the prism of German law, which, as we now know, is unarguably permissive of it.

“A few days ago, the Channels TV aired a live telephonic interview with the Nuremberg police chief, where the officer stated very clearly and repeatedly that the incident was not criminal and that no charges would be brought. He suggested that it was a case of mere political heckling, which is permissible under German law. So, I ask: If the place of the incident did not consider it a crime, why should any other person consider it as one?

“As regards reconciliation with Igbo elected political leaders, the IPOB had, in the recent past, made public their basic conditions for reconciliation.

“They include particularly the following: (a)Immediate and unconditional de-proscription of IPOB and delisting it as a terrorist organization. (b)A truth and reconciliation commission on the Python Dance lethal military operations of September 2017. (c)A public apology for the extrajudicial killings of IPOB members and desecration of the palace of an Igbo traditional ruler at Afaraukwu, Abia State. (d)A genuine dialogue with IPOB on its demands for a referendum on the restoration of Biafra. (e)Discontinuance of the ongoing prosecution of IPOB members and forbearance of any future arrests and prosecutions.

“Is this asking for too much?” the statement concluded

5 Simple Ways To Give Your Old Smartphone A Speed Boost

$
0
0
A slow smartphone is always a source of deep frustration and hustle, and it’s common when you’ve had the same smartphone for a few years. You will always notice the device becoming slower over time and before you break the wallet for a new smartphone, there are a number of things you can do to give your old handset a speed boost.

While there is no hard and fast solution to fixing a slow phone, we hope that following these steps will help make your phone run as quickly and efficiently as possible.

1. Clear cached data
The cache is your phone’s storage system that gives the device data from the previous usage before carrying out an action. When a cache is full, the device will have to scan its entire memory for the required data, which can be a big drain on loading times.

Simply clearing space in a phone’s cache will have a noticeable impact on the time it takes to open web pages, run apps and complete actions.

To clear the cache on your iPhone, go to Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website Data and confirm the Clear History & Data.
On an Android, clear your cache by going to Settings>Storage>Other Apps. Find the app you want to clear, click on it and select Clear Cache.

2. Update to the latest operating system
If your phone is using an old operating system, it can slow your device down. Carrying out regular recommended updates will ensure that your device will always be running the most up to date browser, noticeably improving your browsing experience. In May, we reported about TECNO Spark 3 Pro would be among the list of eligible devices that will be able to get the newest Android updates for Android Q.

On iPhone to check for updates, navigate to Settings>General>Software Updates If there are any updates, it will automatically install and restart your phone.

On an Android phone, go to Settings>About Device>System Updates and allow the updates to install if updates are available.

3. Replace the battery
Replacing your battery can help to give your old smartphone a speed boost. Modern phone batteries do much more than just powering the handset, as they are integral to how a phone operates. Because of this, an old or inefficient battery can cause performance issues and should be replaced to ensure the handset runs as efficiently as possible.

For Tecno, Infinix and itel users, your battery can be updated when you visit Carl Care centre at Kampala Road or visiting any certified outlet for the brand

4. Manage your apps
If your apps aren’t managed effectively, they can drain your phone’s performance. Deleting any unused apps will help to free up memory, which in turn improves your handset’s processing power.

This is because when apps update, the previous version is not deleted but overwritten by the new update, and over time this can increase the amount of memory taken up by the app.

So it’s better you keep only those apps you actively use and ditch the others that just sit around filling up your storage. Most recent Android phones come with the feature that allows you to freeze and unfreeze unused apps which can be pretty much useful to speed boost the phone performance, especially when set it to automatically do so.

5. Performance-enhancing apps
There are several apps you can download to help improve your phone’s performance. Downloading a task manager app, for example, can help give you control over which apps are activated as part of the bootup process every time you turn your phone on.

Limiting the number of apps that are activated upon starting up will shorten the amount of time it takes your device to ‘wake up’ once you’ve switched it on. You can also find apps that help to clear cache space, as mentioned above.

6. Use Lightweight Apps on Android
Android Go apps are specially designed for low-end devices and when your old smartphone starts misbehaving, the quickest way to enhance performance is to switch allegiance to the optimized version of apps that have been proven to run well in such circumstances. You can check out the list of top 6 lightweight apps you can use on Android and the new lightweight Google Go search app which was made available for global downloads yesterday.

Actress, Binta Ayo Mogaji seems to have literally shattered the table on which many of her junior colleagues are on, after her interview with TVC connect.

Binta who used to be a screen goddess during the good old days of NTA, is actually disgusted with what these new generation actresses have become.

Without mincing words, in the interview, Mrs Mogaji basically said;

"The kind of actresses we have now are prostitutes but she won't judge them because she isn't feeding them.

And that she wouldn't be concerned because they are not her daughters.

Furthermore, she said she won't want that for her child, she's not forcing anyone (ass and breast shakers) to stop, she doesn't want it for her own child, she said".

Binta Ayo Mogaji is a veteran Nigerian actress. According to film critic, Shaibu Husseini, Mogaji has been a part of at least 800 film, television and theater productions.

Nicolas Pepe Officially Dribbles Past Virgil Van Dijk To Shatter His 50-Game Record.

Nicolas Pepe has become the first player to successfully dribble past Virgil van Dijk in his last 50 Premier League matches.

According to OptaJoe, the 24-year-old winger smashed Van Dijk's impressive feat during the first half of Liverpool's clash with Arsenal at Anfield.

OptaJoe tweeted:"Nicolas Pepe has become the first player to successfully dribble past Virgil van Dijk in the Dutch defender's last 50 appearances in the Premier League, since Mikel Merino in March 2018 for Newcastle. Beaten."

Pepe, who became Arsenal's club-record signing this summer, picked up the ball at the halfway line in the sixth minute as the Liverpool defender attempted to close him down.

But the Dutch centre-back was left helpless when Arsenal's marquee summer signing flicked the ball out of his reach and showed off his rapid pace down the wing.

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus dribbled his way past the Liverpool defender, 28, in the Community Shield clash earlier this month.

But a spokesperson for the FA came out to say that Jesus' dribble didn't officially count to the stats and Van Dijk's record remained intact at the time.

Van Dijk's record has now been shattered and fans have flooded social media with reactions to Pepe ending the Liverpool star's long-running streak.

President Buhari Lines Up Heavyweights To Battle PDP In South-South

$
0
0
[quote]By Emmanuel Aziken

The emergence of at least four heavyweight political ministers out of the Niger Delta is indicative of President Muhammadu Buhari’s determination to reshape the political configuration of the region in the interest of his All Progressives Congress, APC party sources have said.

High level sources in the party told Saturday Vanguard that the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over the region would come to an end in 2023 as the likes of Senator Godswill Akpabio, Rotimi Amaechi, Festus Keyamo and Timipire Sylva fight to put the APC in the ascendancy in the region.

Remarkably, the heavyweight ministers from the region have been allocated strategic portfolios through which they are expected to generate the goodwill that will propel the party unto higher grounds in unfolding political contests in the region.

“With these men, some of them former governors PDP is not going to do what they used to do before, there is no way that we will not have a good share of the electoral spoils in the Niger Delta by 2023,” the high-level party source said.

Senator Akpabio who is the minister of Niger Delta speaking on Wednesday night at a post inauguration reception was his political combative self, vowing that the political philosophy of President Muhammadu Buhari would sooner than later be imprinted in his state.

“They stole my election, they thought they were doing me evil, but it has turned out for good,” the former two term PDP governor and PDP Senate leader said to a highly partisan crowd of APC faithful present at the inauguration party.

Among them were Nsima Ekere, the APC governorship candidate in the 2019 election and Akpabio’s one time friend turned enemy and lately, political friend, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe. Like Akpabio, all three who spoke at the post-inauguration party spoke with fervency that the state would soon be taken over by the APC.

The momentum for the APC in nearby Bayelsa State is also bubbling after Sylva was removed from the forthcoming governorship contest in the state and appointed minister of state, petroleum.

The former governor is now being looked upon to yield his political structure in the state to the candidate to emerge ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Sources say that the appointment of Sylva as a minister has given fresh hope for the party given insinuations that had he not been appointed minister that he would have used his overwhelming control of the state structure of the party to make himself candidate and again fall to the PDP in the main election.

The growing confidence of the APC is, however, challenged by the PDP’s senior official in the region, Hon. Emmanuel Ogidi, the national vice-chairman of the PDP.

Ogidi in a chat with Saturday Vanguard punctured the confidence of the APC saying that the party’s heavyweight forces were around when the PDP routed them in the 2019 General Election. “All these names you have mentioned were there during the elections but what did they do? Akpabio even lost his seat,” Ogidi said in a telephone interview.

“Amaechi couldn’t do anything even after getting somebody from another party. You know what is going in Rivers State, nobody can defeat Wike.” Asserting that the APC ministers and chieftains lurk around Abuja only to draw false attention to themselves, he said: “They make noise in Abuja but at home they cannot do anything.”

A chieftain of the APC from Akwa Ibom State and former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Eseme Eyiboh, however, saw the appointment of the heavyweight ministers as an indication of President Buhari’s recognition of the development challenges in the region and the determination to address such. “The presence of these people is to show the sensitivity of the Federal Government to its development challenges in the Niger Delta.

These people who were former governors and community mobilisers understand the development template of the Niger Delta. “Bringing them into the Federal Executive Council is an expression of the Federal Government’s sensitivity to the yearnings of the people of Niger Delta when it comes to development,” he said.

“You can take it to the bank that this is going to be the first time that Niger Delta is going to experience a spiral and impacting development,” Eyiboh further submitted. However, one political actor who surprisingly took the path of peace was Senator Akpabio’s political nemesis in the last Senate election.

Senator Chris Ekpeyong who defeated Akpabio in the Senate election in a letter of congratulation to the new minister of Niger Delta was conciliatory in victory. In a letter of congratulations to Akpabio obtained by Saturday Vanguard, Senator Ekpeyong called for harmony between the new minister and political actors from Akwa Ibom to enhance the development of the state. In the congratulatory letter dated, August 21, Ekpeyong wrote: “Our Niger Delta is one area so neglected for decades despite her contribution to the nation’s resources base, the entire component states despite including our own are yet to maximally benefit from the national current drive for development.

“To this end as you channel development efforts to turn around the landscape of the Niger Delta region, I enjoin you to drive a more formidable synergic effort along with other elected and appointed representatives of Akwa Ibom State extraction to bring more infrastructural and human capacity development to Akwa Ibom State.”

Nigerian Lady Faces Deportation In UK For Bribe And False Claim. See Photo

Nigerian immigrant mother, 31, bribed a male NHS nurse, 44, to pose as her baby daughter's father so the child could obtain a British passport

*Maria Adesanya, 31, paid NHS nurse Adekunle Adeparusi, 44, as much as £3,000
*Pair hatched the plan so that Adesanya's daughter could have a British passport
*Nigerian mother now faces deportation and Adeparusi was jailed for 33 months

A Nigerian immigrant mother who bribed a male NHS nurse to pose as her baby daughter's father so that her child could get British passport faces deportation.

Housewife Maria Adesanya, 31, paid £3,000 to UK citizen Adekunle Adeparusi, 44, to put his name down as the father on the child's birth certificate.

Adeparusi then pocketed a further £13,000 that he claimed in child tax credits even though he had no role in the daughter's life.

The pair hatched the plan in January 2014, three months after pregnant Adesanya entered the UK on an eight-month visitors VISA. They were only caught in February 2015 after the mother applied for a Derivative Authority Card.

During this time the mother found work using the ID cards of two EU nationals, a Portuguese and a Dutch citizen.

The child, now aged five, is thought to still be living in the UK.

At Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, Adesanya, from Bury, was sentenced to 14 months in jail but immediately released on licence as she had been under curfew since October.

She was found guilty of false representation and possessing false ID documents.

Adeparusi, from Gavesend in Kent, was jailed for 33 months after admitting making a false statement with intent.

Sentencing Adesanya, Judge John Edwards said: 'This really was a performance of incredible stupidity by you.

'You have a child out of wedlock which is frowned on by your culture and feared what would happen to you and your child if you returned to Nigeria.

'The effect to them of their mother serving a period in prison would be shattering.

'You have spent 10 months worrying about your future and your children’s future. Being separated from the children would have a significant detrimental effect on their emotional wellbeing.

But you displayed a blatant disregard for the immigration laws in this country. What you did was disgraceful and dishonest.'

When sentencing Adeparusi, the judge said: 'Organised immigration crime such as that which you engaged in can have and does have a significant impact on public funds and confidence, and the abuse of documents and the lawful exercise of the right to enter this country goes to the heart of the system which all of us rely on.

'When you came to this country in March 2007 and settled down with your family in Kent, qualifying as a nurse, I’m satisfied you intended to lead a constructive and contributing life.

'But that all ended when you met Ms Adesanya. You lied face to face to the registrar and the passport office and it didn’t end there.

'This was a highly devised and lucrative scheme, these are charges which completely undermine the integrity of the immigration system and garnered you a significant amount of money.'

After arriving in the UK in October 2013 and giving birth, prosecutor Robert Golinski said that Adesanya made contact with Adeparusi via another person who, for a fee, agreed to pretend to be the father.

'It is not clear how much he was to be paid but there are references to £3000, evidence of a payment being made by her to him at the end of January 2014 after the child was born,' he said.

'On 14th January 2014 they both attended Rochdale Registrar office to register the birth and in doing so fully confirmed that he was the father.

'The birth certificate itself contained a false statement that was used by him to make an application for a British passport for the child.

'On the 6th March 2014 the passport office issued a passport in the child’s name and on the 31st July 2014 Mr Adeparusi contacted the authorities and claimed tax credits he wasn’t entitled to because he wasn’t responsible for the little girl.'

'He continued to receive those credits at £7.54 per day until July 2017 - a period of under three years - the total being just under £11,000 in tax credits. He in fact continued to claim them even after he had been told in interview he wasn’t entitled to do so.

'Ms Adesanya submitted application to the home office for a Derivative Authority Card as a primary carer for a British citizen and in doing so submitted the fraudulently obtained passport. That application was refused in February 2015 - she appealed and the appeal was dismissed.

'She was unable to open a bank account in this country between July 2013 and December 2014 but she used one of Mr Adeparusi’s bank accounts to receive over £2000 in wages. During her period in the UK Ms Adesanya appears to have had no real means to support herself and sought to obtain employment.

'She wasn’t entitled to work in the UK and so she assumed the identity of two EU citizens, a Dutch national, and also a Portuguese national.

'She also obtained a false Portuguese ID card.'

"How My Brother Learnt His Lesson In A Hard Way After Marrying A Lady"

$
0
0
I purposely registered a new name because of this story so that many people especially potential husbands can learn from this. I'll like to narrate the story in details so I want you to follow me.

It all started in 2011 when my brother got a contract job in Abuja. Then he met this lady when he went to our home town during a leave but she told him immediately that she can't date him because she's short but he kept persuading her as usual.

As time goes on she started crying that she is unable to pay her 300k school fees because her father is dead and her mum is not buoyant enough to continue the payment and she may withdraw as a result of this. So he offered to sponsor her education from 200level till she graduated and she agreed to date and later married her in 2014.

To make the long story short, he later got her and her two siblings well paid federal government job through his office and later got her a car. Less I forget that their marriage produced two children (a boy and a girl) in five years.

Unfortunately for him his contract job was terminated three months ago and he decided to give her 200k so that they can manage it for four months for food stuff and house keep but she told him that the money has been exhausted after two weeks. This caused a little quarrel and she decided to leave the house with both children and went to spend the week in a hotel.

This spark an annoyance of my family members and we decided to send two of our elderly brothers to her mum in our home town but the woman started sparking that she didn't wanted to marry him in the first place because he's short but she was the one that persuaded her to marry him.

They later had another quarrel last month and the lady took the children to her mum in the home town through a flat without informing the husband and any of our family member. So we decided not to call her and a court letter was issued to him for request of termination of the marriage.

Now the marriage is terminated and my brother is seriously depressed.

I really learnt a lot of lesson from this.

Nigerian Soldiers Intercept ‘Strange’ Military Equipment In Adamawa (Photos)

According to Premium Times, Nigerian soldiers manning a checkpoint in Adamawa State have intercepted six mine resistance vehicles that seemed to have been transported into Nigeria without due process.

The military personnel, attached to the Nigerian Army 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola, seized the equipment in Fufore Local Government Area this week.

The Nigerian Army could not immediately verify the ownership of the equipment, where they were being shipped from and their destination, PREMIUM TIMES learnt from military sources.

Although the Nigerian Army headquarters has directed an urgent investigation into the discovery, the equipment have been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the interim.

On Saturday, the commander of 23 Armoured Brigade, S.G. Mohammed, handed over the vehicles to the comptroller of Customs in charge of Adamawa and Taraba, Olumoh Kamaldeen, at a ceremony in Konkol, Fufore LGA, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

It is not immediately clear whether suspects have been arrested. It is illegal to import such equipment without an end-user certificates from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which is the only federal agency with powers to issue such document.

The development could further upset security agencies, who have continued to grapple with acute insecurity and violence across the country.

Security analysts regularly question how terrorists and other criminals acquire weapons they have used to keep the country under siege for many years, urging security and intelligence agencies to devote more time to understanding the complex web of illicit arms movement.

The latest seizure of six mine-resistance all terrain vehicles (MATV) came three months after a Nigerian politician, Ibikunle Amosun, handed over weapons he had illegally stockpiled for several years to the police.

Mr Amosun kept the weapons for several years at Government House, Abeokuta, until his last day in office when he realised he would no longer enjoy immunity from arrest and prosecution.

The police have failed to arrest the former governor, now a serving senator, despite the widespread uproar and concerns amongst Nigerians that prosecuting Mr Amosun could serve as deterrence to other politicians involved in proliferation of deadly arms across the country.
