Says Nigerians Have Been Scammed With Empty Promises

* APC has brought a sudden decline in the GDP, losses and hardship to the citizens

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA- NATIONAL leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Saturday took a swipe at the government of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying that the nation’s economy worse in ninety days.
According to PDP, Nigerians were scammed with empty promises since the President was inaugurated in May 29.

In a statement Saturday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP stressed that instead of gains, official reports show that the last three months under the APC-led government have brought a sudden decline in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with attendant losses and hardship to the citizens, while the government embarks on propaganda of imaginary achievements, in addition to attempts to foist harsh economic regime to cover its ineptitude.

Metuh said, “the shambolic state of the nation’s economy within the period, which represents the worst in the nation’s contemporary history, is a direct fallout of uncertainty created by the inability of the Buhari-led government to chart a clear-cut economic policy, worsened by abuse of regulations, and flagrant violation of constitutional provisions.
“If not for crass incompetence or a possible ulterior motive to subjugate Nigerians for selfish reasons, what else explains the adamant stance of this administration in running a government without the statutory components of a full cabinet and precise fiscal policy direction, even when the negative consequences of this strange totalitarian approach are taking serious toll on the economy and the polity in general?

“Whereas the APC led government is busy with its propaganda of imaginary achievements, official reports from the National Bureau of Statistics show that that the economy is being grounded with Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) plunging with about 2.35%, while job creation has dropped by 69 percent.

“In the last three months under an inept and poorly coordinated APC-led government, our nation’s economy, which before now, held the record as the largest in Africa and one of the fastest growing in the world, suddenly plummeted as officially evidenced in the lull in the capital and money market sectors which have lost billions of naira; spiral rate of inflation, and stagnation in domestic and foreign direct investments, with investors scared away due to the uncertainty arising from lack of economic direction and apparent confusion in the polity.

“This is in addition to the halt in infrastructure development projects in most parts of the country with associated massive job loss, closure of auxiliary small scale businesses, low purchasing power of citizens, among other negatives that have bedeviled the economy since the coming of this government, despite the much APC celebrated promissory notes from the President’s diplomatic shuttles, especially his recent visit to the United States.

“Nigerians would recall that we recently raised alarm on the negative consequences of the recent foreign exchange transaction restrictions, wherein this government is making it impossible for honest Nigerians to engage in free trade and regulate their personal activities as guaranteed by the constitution.

In church, there are many types of people who attend. There are also many reasons why they attend church.
The three different types of churchgoers are,

1. Hypocrites:
Hypocrites are those who come to church and claim to be a Christian, but when they go home its a different story. They usually come to church about twice a week. In church, you usually can find them sitting all over the church. During praise and worship you can find them praising the Lord and praying as if they where passionate churchgoers. In church hypocrites are some of the best Christian you would ever see. It is just when they go home is where things go wrong. Hypocrites are a crazy bunch of churchgoers, but they are a big part of the church.

2. Only Sunday:
Then there are those who only come on Sunday. They are usually force to come to church by parents or someone with power over them. In church they can be found sitting anywhere from the front to the back of the church depending on their age. During praise and worship you can usually find most of them sitting down or sleeping. They also love coming to church when there is a meal after service. Even though they might come once a month they are still a part of the church.

3. Passionate Churchgoers:
Passionate churchgoers are the heart and soul of all churches. These are the most active members of the church. They love to come to church. They can be found in church just everyday sitting from the front to the middle rows. Passionate churchgoers know just about everybody in the church. During praise and worship you usually can find them clapping their hands and having a good time. They usually hang around after church and fellowship with everyone.

Appointments: Buhari, APC Move To Pacify South East

There were indications on Saturday that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress had begun moves to compensate the South-East for not getting any appointments so far in the current administration.

SUNDAY PUNCH reliably gathered that some states in the geopolitical zone might get more than one ministerial slot.

The Presidency and the APC sources, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH on condition of anonymity, also justified the appointments made by Buhari on Thursday.

A top member of the party said the President was not unmindful of criticisms that greeted the alleged lopsided appointments.

He said, “The President has assured us that all zones that have not been represented in the appointments he has made so far will be compensated.

“For example, some states in the South-East may get more than one ministerial slots. The President is going to make board and ambassadorial appointments. All zones, including the South-East, will be represented in this government.”

Prominent Nigerians and socio-political groups, have criticised the appointments made by Buhari so far.

Out of 31 appointments made so far, 24 of the appointees are from the North and seven are from the South. The South-East has no representation in the Buhari-led government.

SUNDAY PUNCH however gathered that the emergence of the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pastor David Lawal, and the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, was the result of the politics among power blocks in the APC.

It was learnt that the two appointees belonged to the Congress for Progressive defunct Change, which Buhari led, before it merged with other parties to form the APC

A Presidency source told one of our correspondents that Lawal and Kyari were picked because of their closeness and loyalty to the President.

The source said, “Although the President is a loyal member of the party, the levels of trust he has in the members differ. There are various blocks in the APC.

“You don’t give appointments such as chief of staff and the SGF to your rival or his loyalists; you give them to those you can vouch for. Those posts are ears and eyes of the President and they are not subjected to the party’s ratification.”

It was also gathered that the latest appointments confirmed the existence of various power blocks in the APC.

It will be recalled that the CPC, led by Buhari, merged with the Action Congress of Nigeria, the All Nigerians Peoples Party and a faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, led by the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to form the APC.

They were later joined by five governors, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also defected from the PDP to the APC.

Meanwhile, the Presidency, on Saturday, assured Nigerians that by the end of the series of appointments being made by Buhari, no part of Nigeria would feel alienated.

The Special Assistant to the President on Media Affairs, Mr. Garba Shehu, said this in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents.

When asked if the South- East and other parts of the country, who are complaining of being marginalised by Buhari would be compensated, Shehu said appointments so far made by the President were just a few out of so many that would be made by the President.

He said, “There will be ministers, heads of government departments, federal boards and ambassadors. At the end of the exercise, no part of the country will be left feeling left out.”

Tax Evasion: FIRS To Go After 325,000 Companies, Persons

The Federal Inland Revenue Service would soon go after multinational companies, corporate organisations and individuals who are evading payment of taxes in the country.

The move, according to SUNDAY PUNCH’s investigations, is part of a renewed effort by the agency to boost tax revenue to fund the programmes of the Federal Government.

Statistics obtained from the service revealed that out of the 450,000 companies in Nigeria, only 125,000, representing 27.7 per cent, pay any form of taxes.

Going by this figure, it implies that about 325,000 companies are evading tax, thus denying the government huge revenue annually.

In the 2015 fiscal year, the FIRS was given a revenue generation target of N4.5tn by the Federal Government and it has so far generated N2.667tn.

But between January and July, findings by SUNDAY PUNCH showed that the service had collected a total sum of N2.374tn against the target of N2.667trn, thus having a revenue shorfall of N290bn within the seven-month period.

The past Chairman of the FIRS, Mr. Sunday Ogungbesan, had said the service was finding it difficult to track the financial activities of those who did not pay taxes, as most of the evaders were no longer active.

But the Acting Executive Chairman, FIRS, Mr. Babatunde Fowler, in his first official meeting with the management staff of the service, was said to have vowed to ensure that all tax revenue due to the government would be recovered from all tax payers.

Fowler said his administration would not take the issue of tax evasion lightly, as he was aware that some foreign companies that were operating in Nigeria were being investigated in England for evading taxes.

He said, “No country can succeed without taxation. We will make sure that we cover all ground, especially on the corporate level; all tax payers within each state will be covered.

“Those who have found Nigeria a fertile ground; those who have made a living and made profit from the businesses within Nigeria, we ask them to do the right thing.

“We all know the right thing to do. Most of these companies have the big names as auditors yet they keep different records — one set of records for the banks, one set of records for shareholders and one set of records for the tax administrators.

“I think it’s time that that was stopped and I am going to also request that the multinationals should follow our laws and not do things that will contravene the tax laws and I ask them that they should please partner with us and follow the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, especially when it comes to tax payment.”

The Director, Communications and Liaison Department, FIRS, Mr. Emmanuel Obeta, had told our correspondent that the FIRS, in a bid to capture companies with the tax net, is currently discussing with the Corporate Affairs Commission to make it mandatory for the companies to obtain their Tax Identification Number at the point of registration.

Obeta said, “The collaboration with the CAC is still ongoing, such that the FIRS will gain an immediate access to all the data of registered companies and such companies can also obtain their TIN at the point of registration from the CAC.

“The number was obtained from a physical validation or enumeration exercise. A lot of the other registered companies are portfolio companies without visible validation of their existence at their given addresses.”

Prayers Christ Expects Every Christains To Pray

$

"What I say to you all I say to all." These Scripture clears the arguments of Christ words being applicable only to the people of his time or His immediate disciples. That being that,as we all know, Prayer they say, 'is the master key'; an expression of the soul in harmony with the spirit and heart of the believer. Important as it is, prayers have principles (Prerequisite of receiving answers) just as nature have it's own principles guiding it, but this is not the focused of this article and as such we will endure to go into what brings up this article "Prayers every christains should pray".And listed below are prayers that fells in the list:

1. Praying For Ones Persecutors: As much as this sounds practically impossible it is a command from the Almighty that comes in this way "But I say unto you....'pray for those who persecute you.'" Wish I can take you all into the immeasurable beauty and richness of praying for ones persecutors but like I said we have a focus here.Notwithstanding, If God wills and as His grace endures I shall write on it. So in praying never pray against thy persecutors and enemy.

2. Praying For More Labourers: "The harvest is plentiful ,but the labourers are few" Pray then said Christ, "that the Lord of the harvest send out labourers into his harvest".This is the prayer God wants you to pray whenever you come into His presence.

3. That Yee May Not Enter Into Temptation: The power of this prayer cannot be under emphasized. It is in itself self explanatory; a prayer of trust,of need resulting in exponential growth in Faith. I adjure you to pray this prayer for yourself, children and families.

4. Strength To Escape The Hour Of Tribulation: "But watch at all time, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place." Perhaps you are yet to know brother the tribulation is taking place soon before Christ will come( When I say soon I mean soon) and you need strength to escape these things because it is an event that has never occurred before. When Christ says "Praying" you can see the looming destruction ahead. Pray my friend for yourself, your family and children.

5. To Stand Before Christ When He Comes: "Praying that you may.......and to stand before the Son of man" When Christ comes many will have denied Christ because of families and children, because of right to buy and sell. Your prayer should be Let me stand before thee blameless O Christ; Pray this prayer for your husband, yourself and your children.

"Ask and Yee shall receive" No surer promise than this.

Jonathan’s CSO Denies $6.9m Allegation As EFCC Begins Full Probe Of Diezani

Chief Security Officer to President Goodluck Jonathan, Gordon Obuah, has denied allegation of purchase of three mobile stages worth $6.9m, for public appearance of his boss.

Obuah’s lawyer, Mr. Andrew Tsekiri, told The Punch on Sunday, said the allegation was false.

He dared the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to produce evidence instead of putting him on trial in the media.

The lawyer said, “Let me tell you, nothing like that exists. Obuah did not demand for money for any stage. Let them show to Nigerians evidence that he took the money. When Obuah was in their (DSS) detention, they investigated this particular matter and found out that it was false.

“He was confronted with the allegation. Mr. Obuah told them that he knew nothing about it, and they found that the allegation was false. They released him, why are they bringing it up again?

“They have investigated the allegation and they found out it was false, since then no government agency had contacted or invited Mr. Obuah.

“They should show how Diezani authorised the payment of the money and how it left Citibank to Zenith Bank, to Access Bank to Sterling Bank and they should show how it ended in Obuah’s account.”

Tsekiri said the outcome of the allegation would soon show that the Buhari administration was not interested in governance but to frame up allegations against people.

“They are just lying against Diezani and Mr. Jonathan. Let me tell you what they want to do. They will charge Obuah to court, make all the noise about the allegation that has been published, knowing full well that the matter will not be decided in about a year or two, and by then, the public would have forgotten about it but they would have spoilt your name.”

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has commenced a full investigation into the activities of the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The Punch reports that the commission has constituted a four-member committee of crack detectives, led by a Superintendent of Police, to probe all the NNPC accounts, which were supervised by the former minister.

The other three members of the committee, it was gathered, were pioneer civilian operatives of the commission with high capacity for investigation.

Pic: Redeem Church Suspends Pastor Over Pasuma’s Invitation, Cancels Crusade

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) through its provincial headquarters on Lagos Island has cancelled a three-day outdoor crusade of one its parishes.

The cancellation came after the criticism that followed the invitation of the Fuji musician Wasiu Alabi Pasuma as a guest artist for the crusade.

Pasuma’s picture appeared on the handbill advert alongside the gospel singer Tope Alabi and a former band leader of the late Fela Anikulapo’s Egypt 80 band, Kereke Jike.

Naij.com gathered that the decision to stop the programme was because the church headquarters felt the idea to bring Pasuma and his fans to the church was not well conceived. A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the organisers did not do a detailed consultation before going ahead with the programme.

He also said that as a result the programme has been cancelled and the pastor in charge of the church along with the organising committee has also been suspended as they now await sanction for dragging the name of the church into the mud.

The crusade organised by Province 20 and tagged ‘Lagos Island Family areas forum’ was expected to feature Pastor Keji Hamilton and billed for Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25.

Naij.com further learned it was a fan of the Fuji lord who worked at the press where the posters and fliers were being printed who leaked the artwork of the posters and fliers of the event.

A few months ago a church was criticized for inviting a secular singer, Mavin Records’ Korede Bello, to perform his hit single ‘Godwin’ during the Sunday service.

Policeman Orders Woman To Bare Her Breast In Public Or Be Arrested (Photos)

Hello Laila,

After Aba I moved to Owerri in a public bus and I immediately regretted doing that. Owerri is not as bad as Aba sha. It had calm to it but I saw bad road, mounds of uncleared refuse, but more absurd the number of roundabouts in that town for no reason and way too many billboards of Rochass that makes one dizzy.

We were stopped every 5 mins and the driver submitted 50 naira to the police and 100 naira to the Army. At a point I complained.

I was laughed at, what do I know. You are all shouting corruption and aiding corruption but nothing prepared me for the next stop. We got here.the driver ran out of 50s so he decided to play smart and we were stopped.

The police man told us he would search us all. I refused to let this pervert put his hand on my body because I saw the way he was feeling the female up. Mercifully I was on power dressing and when I said you don't have such right to touch me, he knew I would not be toyed with. After he searched others. He still refused to let us go then he faced this woman with a baby and said he needed proof to confirm the child was hers .
..

The woman brought out the babies hospital card and wanted to call her husband, he refused and said the woman should breastfeed the child, so madam decided to mock the he goat policeman so she laughed at him and brought out her breast, entered the car and started feeding her child. Oga police said no way. He has to see Tip and milk. At that point I flipped and told the woman to pull the breast out proper and show him dripping milk , another man would have been ashamed not this one he stood there and made the woman splash milk. That was his proof the child was hers and we were allowed to leave.

I saw something. This country is sick. If I saw his number I would have taken it to Arase's group. But they were not numbered and that itself is totally wrong.

Lives Of Former Governors After Office

$
0
0
Call them yesterday’s men if you like, in the words of former presidential media adviser, Dr. Reuben Abati, who in an article while still in office, lashed out at those who once worked in government, describing them as “hypocritical yesterday’s men,” for these governors who once reigned as kings in their various domains (states), enjoying the perks that came with the offices they occupied, life has not been the same since the left office.

Like Abati, who said the phones no longer ring since he left office, in a recent article, the situation may be the same for the former governors, some of who now live solitary lives, preferring to stay away from the limelight.

Some of these former governors have been in public office since the return of democracy in 1999, others served as governors for two terms of eight years and some for less. Not much has been seen or heard of these former governors, since they left office on May 29, 2015. While some of them have gone back to the various jobs and businesses they did before coming into public office, others have simply gone underground.

Lamido Relocates, Goes Into Business

Alhaji Sule Lamido served as governor of Jigawa State from May 29, 2007 to May 29, 2015. Since he left office on May 29 and after his ordeal with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) barely two months after completing his two terms as governor of Jigawa state, Lamido’s presence in the state capital, Dutse, has reduced considerably.

Sources close to the former governor, who was a staunch supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election, told LEADERSHIP Sunday that he has relocated to Kano State along with his family members, where his business outfits have been established over the years.

Lamido who used to reside in Kano with his family before the creation of Jigawa state, has however maintained the culture of visiting his home town, Bamaina in Birnin Kudu local government and visits his friends and associates during such visits, which are regular. He is one former governor who is still admired by the people of the state for his strides in the social and economic transformation of the state, during his tenure.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP Sunday, Lamido’s former director of press Malam Umar Kiyari, confirmed that his former boss is currently managing his business and is always available at his office in Kano state.

“Sule Lamido is still regarded as a political hero, father and elder whose people still admire and go to for advise, guidance and to draw from his wealth of political knowledge. If you can be opportune to visit his office or his residence in Kano or Jigawa, you will witness how people from within and outside the state still troop there,” he added.

Following the heavy defeat his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suffered in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last general election, Lamido appears to have taken up the role of reorganising PDP members in Jigawa and boosting their morale and confidence in the party, by heading regular meetings with party leaders and supporters across the state.

Two weeks ago precisely, former governor Lamido was sighted at the state PDP headquarters where he reportedly held meetings with party leaders to discuss how to keep the party alive and strategies on how to give constructive and effective criticism, being an opposition party now.

Despite being in a different political party, Lamido, LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered, has been playing the role of an elder by canvassing support for incumbent governor of the state, Badaru Abubakar and also discouraging his supporters from unnecessary criticism of the new government.

Following Lamido’s sympathy or support for Abubakar, there are speculations in the state that the duo may have signed a pact to surreptitiously include PDP members in the cabinet of the APC-led state government.

Despite his role in restructuring the PDP in the state, it was gathered that he is set to lead hundreds of supporters of the party, including some top officials of his administration, to decamp to the APC, a move some PDP stakeholders in the state said if confirmed, would shock the PDP in the state.
