How "Quarry Manager" Fayemi Crushed Peter "The Rock" Fayose - Premium Times

The just-concluded Ekiti governorship election, won by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kayode Fayemi, may go down as one of the most tension-soaked in Nigeria’s history.

Mr Fayemi was President Muhammadu Buhari’s minister of solid minerals before he resigned to contest the election.

Aside from the pre-election fracas and the alleged molestation of the Ekiti governor, Ayodele Fayose, by the police, there were reported cases of violence during voting.

Vote-buying played a major role in the election.
The two major parties, the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were caught on camera giving out money to voters during voting.

At the end of the poll, Governor Fayose’s protégé, Olusola Eleka, who is the state deputy governor, lost with a narrow margin.

Mr Fayemi had 197,459 votes to secure a five per cent victory against Mr Eleka who had 178,121 votes.

The total valid votes cast in the election was 384,594.
Mr Fayemi won 51 per cent of the total valid votes, while Mr Eleka won 46 per cent.

Some Nigerians are seeing Mr Fayemi’s victory as a pay-back against Mr Fayose, as well as the demystification of the governor who succeeded very well in creating for himself an image of a leader so connected with the street and the people.

Mr Fayose in 2014 defeated Mr Fayemi who was the governor of Ekiti as at that time. He won in all the 16 local government areas in the state.

Displaying unrestrained confidence, which attracted huge public attention, Mr Fayose boasted in 2016 that he was merely waiting to humiliate Mr Fayemi and the APC in the 2018 election.

“They will meet me in Ekiti… Nobody can stop me because my name is Peter the rock. You hit me, you are in trouble, I hit you, you are in trouble,” the governor had said then.

He boasted that the APC would not win a single local government area in the 2018 election.

“I am fully ready,” he said. “I am a street boy. I am streetwise to the core. I don’t have another business outside politics, so I am ready.”)

A Facebook user, Dayo Williams, posted on the social media site that the 2018 Ekiti governorship election was all about “a contest of resources”, apparently referring the way the APC and the PDP struggled to outspend each other in vote-buying.

Another Facebook user, Mo Bright Jnr, said the APC outsmarted the PDP by paying N5, 000 to voters during the election, while the PDP, according to him, paid N3, 000 before the election and N4, 000 after the election.

“Peter the rock has met a quarry manager who was the minister of solid mineral resources, and guess what happened? The rock was crushed,” said one Facebook user, Adefolukemi Folusostephen.

“I have always said Fayose does not have the electoral value or so-called grassroots appeal often ascribe to him.

“The combined effect of folk hero propaganda and the myth of transcendental power on Ekiti plebeians built around him by his pauperised mendicants made him believe his own lies for too long. He has always been a bubble. He may be tall in stature but he is a midget in character.

“Stripped of the Federal Government backed rigging machines, Fayose is bare and rudderless,” said another Facebook user, Temitope Ajayi.

"Tiwa Savage Should Prove I Begged Her For Money"– OAP Misi Molu

$

A controversy ensued on social media during the week when a radio presenter, Misi Molu, had stated during an interview that she preferred Yemi Alade as a singer with better vocal range than Tiwa Savage, who, in her opinion, just usually shouted.

During that same interview, Yemi also said that she doesn’t believe there is a ‘number one’ artiste in Africa as the top acts were all doing well and could fill the same concert venues.

Days after a recording of the interview was posted online, Tiwa Savage made a series of posts to insinuate that Misi Molu had earlier begged her for money via social media shortly before airing her views about her talent.

She wrote,

“Wow! They beg you for money today and talk trash tomorrow because it’s not personal; they’re just doing their job, abi?”

In another post, she stated,

“Celebrities are human o. You can’t beg for money then talk trash and expect me to not catch feelings. Like, are you serious? Next time you think of sliding in my DM asking for money or anything; remember your personal opinion and miss me with your BS.”

However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, Misi Molu tasked Tiwa Savage to provide proof that she begged her for money. Reacting to Savage’s posts, she said,

“Personally, I don’t believe she was talking about me. But if she is, she needs to show evidence to that fact. The situation has been blown way out of proportion than what the intentions of the discussion were actually meant to be. People are giving it way too much credence.”

On the propriety of comparing both artistes, especially when Yemi was in the studio with her, Imolu said,

“The type of industry we are in; we are constantly faced with comparison. For example, I have a colleague I’m constantly compared to at work. I did my job by showing my personality as an on air personality. The only problem is that some people do not agree with my opinion and that’s fine.”

Meanwhile, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, Yemi Alade refused to comment on her comparism with Tiwa Savage but she maintained her stance that there was no number one artiste in the country. Speaking through her manager, Taye Aliyu, she said,

“All of the top artistes in the country are blessed by God and they are all doing well in their respective ways. We don’t always have to compare artistes because they have their individual uniqueness. Yemi is always focused on her craft; she doesn’t have time for rivalry.”

Fani Kayode took to his Twitter page criticising the process. He stated that democracy had been defeated in Nigeria.

He described the Ekiti election as a “sham”.

He tweeted: “The Ekiti election was a sham. The APC paid 4000 naira for each vote they got and, in collusion with INEC officials, they used the police and security agencies to drive away PDP agents and supporters from voting and collation centres. They also shut down the local television stations to prevent the truth from being exposed.

“I say weep not for @GovAyoFayose or the PDP but rather weep for the people of Ekiti, for Yorubaland, for the south and for Nigeria.

2019: 5 Things APC Should Worry About From The Ekiti Election - KingOfAmebo

$
0
0
The most-anticipated Ekiti governorship election have come and gone and finally a winner have emerge governor-elect in the person of Dr. Fayemi Kayode of the APC but looking at the various intriguing dramas that preceded the election, some APC apologists are already using the victory in Ekiti as a yardstick that would determine the outcome of the 2019 election: one of the apologists with the handle salvationproject even created a thread that graced the front page of nairaland in a chest beating euphoria, how laughable?

http://www.nairaland.com/4618578/5-lessons-nigerians-should-learn

Below are five things APC MUST be concerned about in preparation for 2019.

1. We know this Is Oshiohmole's First Victory

We all know this is Oshiohmole’s first victory as APC chairman, just as much he knows he has a huge task ahead of him come 2019.

2. APC/Buhari Is Definitely NOT Going To Win 2019

We all know how outgoing Governer, Fayose has been a torn in the flesh of Buhari/APC, So, its normal that the present administration will be desperate to win, they will employ every merchinary within their reach to prove a point, this doesn't represent the views of the masses who complain bitterly of the poor state of governance, poverty, disregard for the rule of law, romance with glaring fraud, unending certificate scandals...just to name a few. The government have failed her integrity test.

3. 2019 election will be a walk over.

Nigerians are tired of this administration, it is evident in the whirlwind of social media vent of anger and frustration which was similar to what happened prior 2015. In fact, I remember the heat on nairaland back then. APC supporters claiming those complaining on social media won't influence the outcome of 2019 should ask PDP how they lost in 2015.

4. Many APC faithfuls would wish they made an early decision to join the emerging political force.

Just as prior 2015, APC became a force by the merging of political parties, same is happening now with political parties merging with PDP. A wise APC supporter should follow suite and join the force or be embarrassed come 2019

5. The Formidable Power to kick APC out of the seat of power is still at a teething stage before and during the Ekiti election, The merger will mature into a formidable power come 2019.

Two heads is and will always be better than one, a political party merger is and will always be an advantage. The new merger with the PDP is still very young and have not even began their ground work, they are still in the situation room and were not even part of the just concluded Ekiti election.

Conclusion: It would be unwise for APC to use their victory in the just concluded Ekiti election as a yardstick of winning the coming election in 2019.

Boko Haram Overruns Nigeria Military Base In Second Attack In Days

Boko Haram jihadists overran a military base in northeast Nigeria after a ferocious firefight, military and vigilante sources said Sunday, the second assault on the country’s forces in two days.

The militants on Saturday evening invaded a base holding hundreds of soldiers in Yobe state — where they abducted over 100 girls from a school earlier this year — in an attack that lasted for hours, a military source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

“Boko Haram terrorists attacked troops of the 81 Division Forward Brigade at Jilli village in Geidam district. The terrorists came in huge numbers around 7:30 pm (1830 GMT) and overran the base after a fierce battle that lasted till 9:10 pm,” said the military source.

“The base had 734 troops. Currently the commander of the base and 63 soldiers have made it to Geidam (60 kilometres away) while the remaining 670 are being expected,” he said.

“We don’t know if there were any casualties among the troops. That will be known later,” he said, adding that the base was new and the troops had recently arrived from Lagos, the commercial capital.

A leader of a local anti-jihadist militia said that the soldiers sustained casualties, but was unable to give a toll, attributing the attack to the Abu-Mus’ab Al-Barnawi faction of Boko Haram, which is known for targeting Nigerian forces.

“We learned that they drove from Lake Chad through Gubio (in nearby Borno state) and attacked the base,” he said.

Geidam resident Fannami Gana said that Boko Haram jihadists “overwhelmed” the troops.

“We don’t know the details of what happened but we learnt they were overwhelmed by hundreds of Boko Haram gunmen,” said Gana.

The attack on the base took place just days after Boko Haram fighters ambushed a military convoy in neighbouring Borno state on Friday.

23 soldiers are missing after the ambush, in which the Nigerian military also lost several vehicles.

The two attacks highlight the tenuous hold Nigerian forces have on the remote northeast region and the persistent threat of Boko Haram, despite claims from Muhammadu Buhari’s government the country is in a “post-conflict stabilisation phase.”

The former military ruler came to power three years ago on a promise to defeat Boko Haram, which is aligned to the Islamic State group and threatens security in the Lake Chad region.

But while there have been clear military gains since a counter-insurgency was launched in 2015, suicide bombings and raids remain a constant threat, particularly to civilians.

Attributes Of Successful Business Owners

$
0
0
On a daily basis, millions of people around the globe make up their minds to setup private businesses and become their own bosses, unfortunately barely 2% of that population eventually get the chance to establish their dream entrepreneurial venture and a much lesser percentage of those businesses eventually become successful.

This is in fact due to individual attributes of the founder/propritor in most cases. There are common traits evident in the lives of successful entrepreneurs regardless of age, race, background, religious orientation or even educational standard. These attributes when properly developed by individuals will help potential entrepreneurs to channel the course of their business in the right direction toward success. Some of these attributes are;

Self-belief

No flourishing business man on earth become successful by doubting him/her self. The place of self-belief is paramount in the minds of every potential business owner, it is the belief in one’s potential that will propels one to actually do forge ahead. If a potential business owner is not sure about him/herself before launching into the business, whenever any form of challenge arise, it will be quite easy for such individual to abandon it no matter how good the plan is. Self-belief is the reminder that pushes one to try harder even when the going gets tough. Doubt is one of the greatest enemy of success, when one is not sure of him/herself concerning proposed business, there is no way such individual can push through amidst start-up hurdles.

Discipline and Dedication

No matter how motivated one is, no matter how much one plan business strategy, without discipline the business will not thrive. Self-discipline is the ability to control one’s feelings and behavior against temporal desires to achieve greater success in the future. (Future does not necessarily mean far years away as perceived by many.) Discipline in business can also be referred to as the acquisition of grip of one’s self against time wasting, procrastination, impulsive spending and addiction of any sort which will affect efficiency. When a potential businessman or woman is disciplined, it helps such individual to be more dedicated to his/her cause because it can only be said of one as dedicated when work is done properly with undivided mind consistently over a period of time, and nothing can be done consistently without impacting discipline on one’s self.

Risk taking ability

For every business venture established, a risk has been taken because no business is guaranteed at start-up, it is a 50/50 chance of success against failure. Having this in mind, a potential business owner must be aware that ‘whatever the outcome may be, I will forge ahead.’ A lot of business ideas have died in the minds of many people who could have been CEOs today, but the fear of failure held them down. We cannot allow fear of uncertainty to stop us from launching our business ideas. Many successful businessmen known today, like the owner of this successful affiliate marketing business have tried multiple businesses and failed woefully in the past before becoming great at their present businesses. Akin Alabi, a successful writer and founder of NairaBET among others business establishment once said that before NairaBET became successful, he had tried several businesses over many years before he eventually hit it big.

Adaptability and Flexibility

Adaptability in business is the ability to evolve one’s business into contemporary structure that will keep one’s goods and services in constant demand throughout, while flexibility is the eviction of rigidity in business to allow better suitability for success. Facebook today is not the Facebook that started some years ago, there are many features that Facebook lacked at the inception which has been included over the years till today for better use by consumers. Facebook improved privacy settings, ensured friendlier user interphase, custom celebration videos, etc., which were not in Facebook when it was founded.

This gradual evolution of business product as the world change will keep business in shape. A lot of social media websites were designed the same year Facebook was developed, many are even more funded which are nowhere to be found today, but adaptability and flexibility keep business running.
Market Product and Knowledge

An entrepreneurs who aspire to be successful must know his/her product inside and out, he/she must also know the market well. Most businesses become successful because the founders create something that did not already exist or they significantly improve an existing product after surveying ways of existing products and services similar to what they do. The knowledge of one’s business, remaining aware of changing market needs will keep business afloat.

Strong Money Management

It takes time for entrepreneurial venture to become profitable, until then, capital is limited and needs to be utilized wisely. Successful entrepreneurs plan for present and future financial obligations and set aside an emergency fund. During this temporal period, one must avoid impulsive spending and calculate profit before spending on anything whatsoever. Even after securing funding or going fully operational, a successful business person must keep a complete handle on cash flow, as it is the most important aspect of any business.

Obasanjo Speaks On Fayemi’s Victory In Ekiti

Obasanjo speaks on Fayemi’s victory in Ekiti

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has written to the Ekiti State Governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi, congratulating him on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

“Indeed, your success at the polls after a hard fought campaign is proof that the people of Ekiti State value your leadership and appreciate the efforts you have made thus far on their behalf,” Mr Obasanjo said in the letter dated July 15. “I salute you and all those who worked for your re-election.”

The former President, who said he received news of Mr. Fayemi’s election while on transit to Beijing, China, described the politician’s victory as a huge feat.
He added, “You will agree with me, no doubt, that the outcome of the election broadly reflects the choice of your people, who have, by their conduct, visibly demonstrated that they cherish you and will do their utmost to make you succeed.

“I urge you, therefore, to reciprocate their trust by doing everything you can to strengthen their faith in democracy and in its ability to bring about improved material conditions and better service delivery to them.
“You have fought and won the election and deserve to savour the victory. As you rejoice, however, I would urge that you should be magnanimous in victory and stretch a hand of fellowship to the other candidates who failed in their bid for elected office.

“Such a gesture is not only charitable but should also help at this time to cool passions in the wider interest of Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria at large.

“I felicitate with you, once again, on your renewed mandate and, as you prepare for another four years at the helm of affairs of Ekiti State, I extend best wishes for your good health and the continued progress of Ekiti State under your able leadership.”

Although Mr. Obasanjo is opposed to Mr. Fayemi’s party, the All Progressives Congress, (APC), he appeared to prefer the victory of the party in this particular election.
The former President had in 2006 masterminded the impeachment of the state’s then and current governor, Ayo Fayose, from office. Mr. Fayose was at the time accused of monumental corruption.

Mr. Fayose surprisingly returned to office by defeating Mr. Fayemi in the 2014 election. But he has remained one of the most consistent critics of Mr. Obasanjo, abusing the former leader from time to time.
It appears the former president wanted PDP defeated in Ekiti as punishment for Mr. Fayose.

"Fayemi’s Victory Shows Nigerians Are Happy With Buhari"– Lai Mohammed

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Sunday said the outcome of the Ekiti election won by Kayode Fayemi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a referendum on the performance of the President Muhammad Buhari’s administration.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Minister said the election which was more than one state’s governorship election was not just a defeat for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but all naysayers and purveyors of fake news.

He said: “With the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Ekiti governorship election, Nigeria people have spoken, and they have spoken loudly, about their perception of the APC-led Buhari Administration.

“The election was more than one state’s gubernatorial poll. It was a referendum on the performance of the Buhari Administration. And Nigerians have given their verdict!

“It’s not just a defeat for the PDP, it’s a defeat for all the naysayers who have made themselves the spokespersons for Nigerians.

“Furthermore, it is a death knell for fake news! Anyone who monitored the social media before and during the election would think it would be a landslide for the PDP. But the reality is different.

“We want to most sincerely thank the people of Ekiti State for ensuring that the election was free, fair and credible, as attested to by local and international observers, and for turning out en masse to exercise their franchise.

“In 2014, the votes of the people of Ekiti did not count as the then PDP-led Federal Government used federal might to hijack the election and concoct the result. They barred two serving Governors from travelling to Ekiti to support their fellow Governor. They wilfully shut the Akure airport and we, leaders of then opposition APC, were forced to return to Lagos by road in the night.
“With the roles reversed in 2018, we did not pay the PDP back in its own coin, because of our strong belief in the rule of law. The rest is history.”
