By Oziegbe Okoeki October 6, 2019

Water transportation in Lagos is expected to accommodate between 500,000 to 1million passengers per day when fully operational and it is expected to decongest the roads.

Commissioner for transport, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde stated this while answering questions from reporters during an inspection tour of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, in its office at Falomo, Lagos at the weekend.

For now the waterways carries only between 70,000 to 100,000 passengers which the commissioner said is quite low.

He assured that the state government is currently making a lot of investment in the sector to provide all the needed facilities and equipment and make it as safe as possible.

“We will make sure water transportation will be the next best thing in Lagos, water transportation is the next frontier for this administration and that is why we are pumping a lot of resources into the sector.

“We are investing a lot in water transportation, when you look at the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, he has prioritise water transportation as one of the mode that will take pressure off the roads and there is a lot of investments going in there.

“We are making it as safe as possible and I can assure Lagosian that it would be one of the attractive mode in Lagos; currently we are working with Coca Cola that has invested in clearing wreckages from the water and we will encourage more private sector participation.

Speaking on challenges confronting the agency earlier, Managing Director of LASWA, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel said the agency needs among other things an emergency and rescue system, that operators should be certificated and that there is need for capacity building for LASWA staff.

Newcastle United Vs Manchester United (1 - 0) Full Time

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is, as the cliche states, “saying all the right things.” What else is he supposed to say, given the dire straights the club is in right now, other than stay the course, it’s going to be a very long rebuild.

However, at the same time, his remarks sometimes come off like a real life version of the “this is fine” dog in the burning house meme. The club’s worst start in 30 years is what it is, and you just can’t put lipstick on that pig. Sitting in tenth place, with just two Premier League wins as they head into their last match before the second international break, is unacceptable at Old Trafford.

“I just know sometimes when you walk off games, we’re not doing bad here,” Solskjaer said at his weekly news conference ahead of the trip to Newcastle United.

“Sometimes there’s a gap. I’ve felt that a couple of times but not very often. I can’t think about what anyone else is thinking about us. We will need to improve and that is what we have to do.”

The goal for this season was top four, and that looks extremely unlikely right now. Actually, the top six will be a mighty struggle, and that shows you how far the club has fallen from the Sir Alex Ferguson led heyday.

Solskjaer played under Sir Alex, and he referenced Fergie Time, and how it’s light years away right now.

AY Comedian Share the video of tacha

I am so enjoying @symply_tacha journey in trying to get better every day. This is a good time for her to surround herself with more of positive people.

For those who still feel offended by her actions during BBN should find away to forgive and encourage her. I believe forgiveness is the best form of love.

Inner peace can be reached only when we practice forgiveness. Forgiveness is letting go of the past. It is the means for correcting our misperceptions.

More importantly, It takes a strong person to say they're sorry and an even stronger person to forgive.

Tension As Herdsmen Kill Farmer In Akwa Ibom

There is palpable tension in Nkek village, Ukanafun local government area of Akwa Ibom State following the killing of a farmer identified as Lucky Christopher Udoakpan by Herdsmen

The council chairman, Mr. Uko Idiong, who disclosed this to journalists via a telephone call on Sunday, said Udoakpan was killed on Friday when he went to weed grass on his farm.
Idiong said the deceased was on his farm when some herdsmen entered and insisted on feeding their cattle with his crops and this led to a quarrel between him and the herdsmen.

He said the herders had in the fit of rage pulled out machetes and inflicted cuts on the deceased. The injuries sustained from the attack led to his (farmer) death.

The council chief said: ”The incident happened in Nkek village. Nkek village is in Ward 3 in Southern Ukanafun, Ukanafun local government area. Youths of the village called to inform me of the incident and I quickly went there with the House of Assembly member, Hon. Charity Ido, to inspect the scene.

“But before I went there I had to call my Divisional Police Officer, Edet Offiong, who was ahead of me. The police saw the corpse and took it to the compound of one of the chiefs in the village. So I told them to wait till I arrive.

” When I got there the youths of the village were aggrieved and I had to talk to them to remain calm. The villagers informed me that the deceased went to his farm to weed.
“When he (deceased) was there he saw the herdsmen with their cattle. He told them to leave his farm because the cows were destroying his crops.”

He said the villagers told him that when the farmer and the herdsmen were talking, the herdsmen challenged him (Udoakpan) and brought out daggers and machetes and cut the man in about three places on his body and he died.
“I directed that the corpse should be deposited in the mortuary that same day. It is regrettable and sad that the man died leaving behind his newborn baby who is still breastfeeding, a young wife and an aged mother.

“I told the DPO that they should look for the herdsmen who killed the man. But the police reported back to me, saying they could not find them as not even the footprints of the herdsmen or the cows were seen,” Idiong added.
The state Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Odiko MacDon, confirmed the incident, saying “the policemen are aware of the incident and investigation is ongoing.”

Governors Castrated Local Governments, Says Kashamu

Governors castrated local govts, says Kashamu

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State in the last general election, Senator Buruji Kashamu, has said he was delighted at the Buhari administration’s efforts to bring succour to ordinary Nigerians by freeing local governments from governors who castrated them.
Kashamu, who spoke in an interview, said President Muhammadu Buhari means well for the country.
He said: “It is an open secret in Nigeria that governors had castrated the local governments by depriving them access to their statutory funds. This has turned into a serious economic strangulation at the grassroots which prompted me into making the declaration during my electioneering that I will never touch local government funds if elected as governor. I salute President Buhari for having the rare political courage and patriotism to save the Nigerian masses through the NFIU monitoring of local government funds.  I strongly believe that sooner than later the people will feel the impact of this initiative.
Kashamu called on all Nigerians to support Buhari to make a success of his effort to correct the infrastructure deficit in the country.
“The President must be supported by all Nigerians for his giant strides in the area of correcting the infrastructure deficit. If you consider what he is doing at the airports together with the road construction in different parts of the country, it becomes obvious that he means well for the nation,” he said.
Kashamu said he had not abandoned the PDP but noted that there must be an end to campaign for governance to thrive.
“After an election, any genuine political gladiator must partner with the government for the development of the society and the advancement of its people. That is why I am in politics. It is about my people’s welfare and certainly not out of want of what to do,” Kashamu said.
On what he does now, he said: “A lot has been happening. As you are aware, I am an entrepreneur and an employer of labour. I have been in business for decades before I ventured into active politics about a decade ago. So, after my stint at the Senate, I simply returned to my businesses of cotton ginnery, hospitality, real estate and entertainment.”
Kashamu said he went into the election expecting victory, adding that “Nobody will reasonably commit so much into a cause like I did with the intention of losing. My participation in the election was more of a struggle against impunity, injustice and the overbearing attitude of some of our political actors. I hate injustice with a passion. I can give anything to fight injustice. We put in our best. But, the protracted court case had adverse effect on our supporters and mobilisation efforts. We thank God that the Rule of Law prevailed and we were on the ballot against the expectations of the lawbreakers.”
Kashamu said the fight against corruption deserved the support of all if Nigeria must survive, adding that it must not be politicised or trivialised.
“But, it cannot be overstated that corruption knows no tribe, religion or race; it is also not limited to any political party. We are all culpable. We appoint our relatives and favour people who are ready to grovel at our feet. We do not reward merit. Everywhere you turn, mediocrity is the order of the day. “The only way to fight corruption is to take personal responsibility, live and lead by example, and I think this President is excellently doing so. More importantly, I think this present administration has made us to realize the need to do away with the extravagance of the past. Now, we must work and live within our means. Let’s not just preach, let’s practice what we preach. We can earn a decent living by identifying and taking on opportunities around us. Before now, many Nigerians see political office as an opportunity to become billionaires.
“Others simply become billionaires overnight by working with government. Some politicians spend their time cutting deals and sponsoring people to look for government tenders. All of these must stop if we are desirous of a new and prosperous Nigeria. And this cannot be done by the government alone. We, as citizens and stakeholders, must gird our loins and lend our full support to the fight against corruption. Another way to fight corruption is to end impunity. When we talk about corruption, the tendency is for us to think only in terms of financial corruption. But, when political leaders go against the laws of the land as if no one can hold them accountable, it is corruption. It is happening in my party, the PDP, with respect to the party structure in Ogun State. We have to be able to end impunity and say it does not matter who you are, where you are from and who is your godfather.”
