African Woman: A Dying Breed?

$
0
0
I turned the topic into a question because to me, the concept of the African woman being a dying breed for me is in question. This is due to the fact that I think it’s still very much in existence. I guess it boils down to the idea of Africanism. What does it mean to be an African Woman? From my end, I think what is generally embedded in our minds is the fact that Africa is primitive, local and uncivilized. Then when the concept of civilization and globalization comes into play, it seems we are losing ourselves to American/European culture.
Let me run this by you, my ever ardent reader: What are the characteristics that make African women
African women? Here is the idea my mind creates, “A woman locally bred to live for and only for the wishes of first, her parents, then subsequently, her husband and children; totally lacking a personality or mind of her own; forever doomed to be in either the kitchen or the farm; lacking a listening ear to her opinions, interests and passions; being purely a background figure, never in the limelight or at the helm of affairs.” If you are looking for these kind of women, there are still so many of them. Reach out to your rural hometowns and villages. The concept of outlooks of life, style and fashion, choices made in variety of regards are just topics that fit into the scratching-the-surface category. And if you ask me, if anything bad is being done by our women today, there is really nothing new under the sun. Regardless of tribes, continent, climate or taste of water, people everywhere make wrong choices every day. So, blaming scanty dressing and being oversexed on civilization is pure ignorance.

Don’t get me wrong; I want my wife to be able to cook and take care of our family. I want her to respect and love me as her husband and give all her love to the kids. But I also want my wife to have a mind of her own. I want her to work for her own money and not be totally dependent on me. I want her to contribute to society as a right-standing citizen and be her own woman. I want her to be able to run fairly for positions of authority, or be a boss in her own company. I want my love to have her own dreams and aspirations, to be able to help her pursue and realize them. I can have the best of both worlds, can’t I?

And these are the women I see today. There aren’t too many of them but they are out there. You need to be in the right crowd to see them. I think there should be a new definition of African women. Women who beyond all odds of society stand strong and act superhumanly, juggling the pressure of taking care of the homes as well as keeping their jobs. This is my idea of the true African Woman, the New True African Woman.

4: Never allow any adult refer to your new born as 'my wife' or 'my husband'.
5: Never tempt your husband with your younger sister. (Else he'd say its
her's and the devil's fault)

6: Avoid unnecessary familiarity and make sure you take care of your husband by yourself lest you lead him into temptation.

7: Whenever your child goes out to play with friends make sure you look for a way to find out what kind of play they played together because young people now sexually abuse themselves.

with and also be observant if your child becomes too fond of a particular adult.

I had cs with my first child after prolonged failed induction and due to the fact that he was big 5kg. I stayed for abt 2 weeks in the hospital due to damages that occurred during the prolonged labour. My 2nd child was also thru cs cos of the first experience. I wasn't given any chance for womanly delivery. Now I'm having my 3rd child but I don't mind anymore, I want to just have healthy baby and to be alive to take care of my kids. My opinion is that cs is a life saver and reduce d risks associated with child birth. And my advise is that if your doctor says u will do cs don't be afraid cos it is for ur good and that of ur baby. It is God that give them wisdom so don't be sentimental or too religiously abt it. It is better to be alive with ur baby.

Banks, Others Jittery Over Investments In Power Sector

$

Indications to this emerged at the just-concluded Seventh Lagos Economic Summit, tagged Ehingbeti 2014, where some chief executives of financial institutions expressed concern over the revenue profile of the power companies, especially the recently privatized electricity distribution companies (Discos).

Consequently, they called for an increase in the electricity tariff and price of gas to boost the income generating capacity of the companies.

Speaking at a session tagged, ‘Funding the power sector – creating banking projects/companies,’ the executives explained that increasing electricity tariff, as well as the price of gas, will improve the fortunes of the power companies and make it possible for more investors to stake their funds in the sector.

Members of the panel included Mr. Rossie Turman, Partner, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP; Mr. Idris Mohammed, Partner, Development Partners International; Mrs. Sola David-Borha, Chief Executive Officer, Stanbic Holdings, Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi, Commissioner for Finance, Lagos State and Mr. Akin Ogunranti, General Manager, Power and Infrastructure, Zenith Bank Plc. Mr. Batchi Baldeh, Senior Vice President, Power, African Finance Corporation was the lead speaker, while Mr. Solomon Adegbie-Quaynor, Country Manager, International Finance Corporation, IFC, was session chair.

David-Borha explained that the problems bedevilling the power sector will be addressed with appropriate pricing and tariffs. She noted that the distribution companies’ ability to pay back their indebtedness will improve as their ability to generate more cash improves.

She maintained that pricing is key in the power sector as it will help ensure that the numbers add up. She added that if the pricing issue is addressed, everything else will fall in place.

“If we really want more investors to come and invest in the power sector, it is necessary that they should be given the right incentives and opportunities. We have to encourage investors by putting more money on the table; by ensuring the right tariffs are in place,” she said.

Also speaking, Ogunranti called for an increase in the tariffs, noting that a number of investors are waiting on the sidelines and will not hesitate to come in and invest in the sector once the pricing issue is tackled.

He said, “Increasing the tariff will encourage more investors to put in more money. If we did do not get the tariff issue right, we will not see the rapid improvement we desire in the power sector.

Adegbie-Quaynor pointed to the fact that what the masses are paying via the use generators is very high.

He said the fact is that the masses are paying life cycle power costs of US$0.40 (N64) to $0.50 (N80) per kilo watt hour, with small petrol or diesel generators.

He said that this makes it critical for private investors, regulators and the government to come together and discuss key issues that can make the power reforms successful so that the ordinary man and woman do not have to pay such large amounts for power.

The key issues, he noted, include reliability and availability of gas, which will require investment in gas supply and a pipeline network; strengthening and expansion of the power transmission network; investment in the power discos to reduce the Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses, that may be as high as 60 per cent in some discos; and rehabilitate and expand the generation companies (Gencos) and the Independent Power Projects (IPPs)”.

He noted that resolution of these key issues requires significant investment, management and technical skills, adding that government, regulators and the private sector need to come together and reach a solution that will lead to the necessary investments, and at the same time not be adversely impactful on the common man or woman.

Continuing, he said, “The World Bank’s position is that government, regulators and the private sector owners of power assets should come together, deliberate, and find a fair and balanced solution so that Nigeria has reliable and affordable power to fuel inclusive growth and economic development.

“IFC, World Bank and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) are committed to supporting government, regulators and the private sector in making the power reforms successful through the World Bank Group’s Energy Business Plan which aims to support financing and risk mitigation for the addition of at least 1,500MW of additional generating capacity in the next 12 to 18 months.

We would also, “Support capital expenditure financing in two to four distribution companies; support development, investment and financing of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in both power transmission and gas pipeline networks; support development and financing of affordable renewable energy solutions through solar lanterns and cook stoves, amongst other products, to the common man and woman, and also off-grid solar solutions to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and critical centres like hospitals and schools using photovoltaic technology.

However, in a separate session at the summit, Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC represented by its General Secretary, Mr. Issa Aremu, warned that until the problems in the sector are resolved, any attempt to bring about increase in electricity tariffs will be seen as criminal and will be sternly resisted.

He said that tariffs should be commensurate with service delivery. “It is stealing if you increase tariffs without improved service”, he said.

He said Nigerians are actually looking for improved service delivery as regards power supply and will actually like to see what they are paying for before tariff increase is considered.

He noted that the nature of the power sector reforms and how they are carried out are critical, and also wondered why the reform process is being rushed, especially when the operators are of the view that a lot still have to be put in place to drive the process.

In other panel sessions at the three-day summit, the issue of revamping the power sector in the country took the centre stage, while improving electricity supply to Lagos was also given adequate attention.

For instance, Mr. Charles Momoh, Chairman, West Power and Gas, owner of the Eko Distribution Company, emphasized the need to revamp the country’s power infrastructure, saying that the country is still using power infrastructure in operation since 1896.

He blamed the epileptic power situation across the country on the non-availability of gas and the reduction of power supply to the distribution companies.

Specifically, he said that the total gas available for Lagos State, cannot power more than 500 mega watts of electricity, adding that the company is currently receiving less than 200 mega watts, down from the 400 mega watts promised when it took over the assets.

Momoh further blamed the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, for the “blinking” power situation, saying, “The TCN introduced frequency relays to protect their equipment, which is at the expense of consumers’ appliances, because this relay is responsible for the two minutes on and off power situation in Lagos.”

He noted that Eko Distribution Company currently have the capacity to deliver 700 mega watts of electricity, but it is currently receiving only about 240 mega watts.

He however noted that Eko Distribution Company has commenced the process of increasing power supply by about 500 mega watts, adding that it is talking to 45 companies interested in embedded generation and two other companies for captive power.

On his own part, Mr. Sola Adeshina, Managing Director, Sahara Power, owner of the Ikeja Distribution Company, also noted that unavailability of gas and a non-cost reflective tariff structure is hampering the effective delivery of power to consumers.

In addition, Mrs. Funke Osibodu, Chief Executive Officer, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, said that operators are aware that Nigerians are fed up with the power situation and want a change.

She however noted that what is lacking is the fact that a vast majority of Nigerians do not have the information that the change that is expected will require more from every one.

According to her, fixing the problems in the power sector is a long haul and it will take a long time for operators to achieve their goals.

“Nigerians should be aware that infrastructure is not power. The government and some politicians will donate transformers to a community and they will think their power problems are over.

“We should know that transformer is not power. Power has to be generated first before the transformer and other equipment can distribute.”

In his own view, Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power, who spoke via live webcast from India, said the reforms in the Nigerian power sector will not succeed unless there is direct support and oversight from the government.

He noted that financial prudence in the transition process is key, adding that emphasis should be placed on the change management process, as well as in the valuation of the business.

He said customer satisfaction should be the key goal for the reforms process, adding that the reforms should also focus on working to reduce the cost of distribution.

Nurudeen Lemu's Electrifying Speech At The National Conference

***NURUDEEN LEMU'S SPEECH AT THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE, HE GOT A STANDING OVATION FROM OTHER DELEGATES***
Since the commencement of debate on the president’s speech at the national conference, the chairman placed embargo on clapping.

However, that embargo was overturned by delegates after a rousing and electrifying speech by a delegate representing the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Nurudeen Lemu from Niger State.

His speech got a standing ovation and thunderous round of applause. The transcript of his speech that Set Delegates on fire when you continue......

Alh. Nurudeen Lemu, a delegate from the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs

As a delegate, and as a people representing people of faith in God from the Islamic perspective, one thing we believe is that God will protect the community that stands for justice even if they are not Muslims and God will not protect the community that goes contrary to justice even if they call themselves Muslims.

God is not a religious bigot. He is not a male chauvinist. He is not an ethnocentric tribalist. God is not the oppressor of anyone. God is with those who care; those who want for others those things they want for themselves.

One tendency for people who claim to follow a religion is to slide into the position of believing that we are better than the others. We overestimate our virtues and underestimate the goodness in others. The tendency is for us to become spiritually arrogant; to forget that others are people like us.

There is always a tension between representing our religious communities or our ethnic communities and our loyalty to the virtues and values and teachings of our religion even those lofty ideals of our ethnic groups.

It is our prayer that delegates will try and ensure that the spiritual strength we have in us will keep us from not getting angry and not allowing our bitterness from others to make us sail from justice. It is in this vein and as a delegate from the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, we condemn the murder of all Christians, we condemn the murder of all Muslims. Not because they are Christians or Muslims, but because they are human beings – creatures of God.

There is no compulsion in religion. We all own Nigeria. We all belong here. And we all have the right to self-determination. We should respect that right and do unto others what we will do unto ourselves.

There are many other countries that have ethnic and religious diversity far greater than what we have here in Nigeria. But something that distinguishes us from them, be it Singapore, United States, they have been able to respect the rule of law so that any bigot, any nepotic individual who tramples on the right of anyone especially that of the minority, the rule of law will catch up. Satan will only find a hole if there is a crack in that rule of law.

Ever ethnic group is an oppressed minority somewhere. Every group is a religious and ethnic minority somewhere. Every majority or settler is an indigene somewhere. In one way, we are all settlers; we just don’t remember where we came from or why we came.

But ultimately, we are all visitors to this planet, from God we come and to Him we return. As Muslim delegates, we come in brotherhood, as brothers and friends to solve our common problems and not as adversaries.

We come against the exploitation of religion and religious sentiments. We come against stereotyping, stigmatizing and dehumanizing of each other. We come against the use of religion as a political decoy and as a distraction from the critical things that bedevil our nation.

I pray that at the end of this conference, we will all grow in our humanity and respect for each other.

Scrabble-Playing National Conference Delegate Responds

The Elder Statesman who was pictured at Nigeria's National Conference playing Scrabble on his Laptop has been identified and has responded to the criticisms of the numerous blogs and online media that reported the story and their readers who condemned him.

The Elder Statesman is University administrator and academician - Professor Oyewale Tomori, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ogun State.

Trumpet Media Group sensing that numerous reports had jumped into conclusion by not considering all the possibilities, published the picture with the caption: 'Does anyone have a name for him?'- with a view to hearing his side of things.

Professor Tomori responded to Trumpet Media Group's report by posting his response on our website.

Below is his response:
"Yes, indeed, I know the person, because I am the one. I have responded to some of the blogs on the matter. The truth is this activity was done during the lunch break between 2-4 pm. As soon as the Chairman calls the meeting to order, I switch off my computer.

Is there any rule against spending my free time as I like? Moreover, is there anything wrong, if others engage in reading newspapers and talking with others during their free time, and I prefer engaging in activities, I consider more useful to my development, such as using scrabble to improve my word power and discover new words?. Indeed, I often play against the best in the world, world champions, and I have been beaten many times. But in the process I learnt new words, their meanings and improve my written and spoken language.

"Journalists live and sell their papers through the sensation route, which often is the opposite to telling the truth or providing full details. If the person who posted the picture had said the activity took place during the lunch break, that would have been no news; but to create sensation, he or she was economical with details.

"I will certainly continue to play such other mind engaging games like Sudoku, Logic, etc, if only to make me a better thinker and presenter. Only thing, is I will do this at my own free time!

"Thank you very much

"- Oyewale Tomori"

Prof. Oyewale Tomori is a researcher and laboratory specialist who served from 1994-2004 as the Regional Virologist and Laboratory Coordinator in the World Health Organization (Africa Region) and is of wide ranging experience in virology, disease prevention and control, national capacity building and development in the African region.

Top 5 Africans To Shine In Brazil 2014

$

The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil will kick off in June. Five African teams will try to do Africa proud in the tourney. Algeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria all boast of numerous football stars across the world. Sports Triangle has chosen 5 stars to shine among others in the World Cup.
They are:

1. Faouzi Ghoulam (Napoli & Algeria)

Born in Central France to Algerian parents, Ghoulam is a traditional left-footed left-back. He's quick and makes bursting runs forward to join in with the attack. He's good at playing long balls and is a threat with crosses and from set-pieces.
Having played twice for France U-21 side, he chose to represent Algeria at the 2013 AFCON but was left on the sidelines for the entire tournament.
He finally made his international debut against Benin in a World Cup qualifier and made an instant impact by assisting the first goal. He moved to Italian outfit Napoli from Ligue 1 side Saint Etienne in the January transfer window and is expected to play a vital role in the Brazil-bound Algeria team.

2. Kenneth Omeruo (Middlesbrough & Nigeria)

Nigeria’s defensive stalwart is an indisputable entry onto this list after his impressive showings at the 2013 Cup of Nations. He's expected to burst onto the world stage alongside partner Godfrey Oboabona in Brazil.
His ability will be tested as he's set to face four-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Vedad Ibisevic and Edin Dzeko in Group F.
He has been performing consistently for Middlesbrough, since his loan move from Chelsea and should head to Brazil both in form and in good shape.

3. Christian Atsu (Vitesse Arnheim & Ghana)

The left footed winger is an undoubted talent and has long been tipped as his country's brightest emerging star.
He sealed a move to European giants Chelsea and was immediately shipped out on loan to Dutch club Vitesse. He has since impressed with four goals and six assists to his name. He's quick and technically astute and has an eye for goal.
He is reminiscent of a young Lionel Messi and he's got the potential to strike a formidable partnership with Marseille winger Andre Ayew for the Black Stars this summer.

4. Ogenyi Onazi (Lazio & Nigeria)

Tipped for greatness, Onazi is an established member of the Super Eagles and has been burdened with much of the defensive duties in the midfield since making his place in the side. Despite these responsibilities, he’s also not shy of bursting forward to help attacks.
He also has a penchant for taking ferocious shots.
The young Lazio centre-midfielder is expected to keep his place in spite of the recent reshuffle in the middle of the park by Stephen Keshi given his dynamism and versatility.

5. Wilfried Bony (Swansea & Cote d’Ivoire)

Typically, with Cote d’Ivoire, attention focuses on Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure. However, it remains to be seen whether the 36-year-old forward can still lead the line effectively for the Elephants.
Bony should not be underestimated, he's an all-out striker who can also play behind Drogba. His agility, strength and goal-scoring can be valuable assets for the Ivorians this summer.
He already has 23 goals in 37 appearances for both club and country this season and is expected to play a vital role in the post-Golden Generation Elephants side.

Ways To Catch A Cheating Partner

$
0
0
Once your partner thinks you don’t suspect them anymore, use these 18 signs and ways to catch a cheating partner to catch your lover in the act!

#1 Watch the signs. Do you see a change in your partner’s behavior recently? Have they started working out, dressing better, or started using a new seductive intense evening perfume? They may have no reason for the changes, and almost always, these changes may seem very spontaneous.

#2 Drop by unannounced. Every now and then, drop by unannounced to their workplace or come back home early. Don’t make it obvious that you’re just spying on them. Instead, always have a great excuse to walk in unannounced. If your partner is cheating on you, the first thing they’d do *instead of welcoming you with a smile* is hide something or appear surprised or even angry! [Read: 3 big reasons and 27 excuses behind why men cheat!]

#3 Check their recycle bin. The garbage is a great place to dispose of things. And sometimes, it also has a lot of clues. If your partner is on the computer often, check the computer’s recycle bin often. Chances are, there may be another person’s photo or a little snippet of information that could be of some use.

#4 Snoop on their phone. Does your partner carry their cell phone with them wherever they go, even if it’s a trip to the loo? If that’s happening in your relationship, there’s a good chance your partner’s up to something. Take a peek into their cell phone when you get the chance, especially when they’ve put the phone on charge.

Erased phone logs, a password protected phone, several calls to the same unknown numbers, or phone bills without detailed call information are all good signs that your partner is trying to hide something. [Read: 25 reasons why women cheat so easily on their man]

#5 Spontaneous sex. This works better if you’re a girl, and dating a guy. If your boyfriend or husband comes home late from any unexpected delay, try to have spontaneous sex with them when they get back home. If your guy gets angry, pushes you away or tries avoiding it at all costs, chances are, he may be exhausted down there. He could always wash himself up before getting home, but getting it up immediately and blowing a huge load, that’s not the easiest thing to do!

#6 Follow after a fight. Most cheating partners intentionally try to pick fights, slam the door and walk away, because it makes a great excuse to slip out of the house and meet their adulterous lover. If your partner’s been picking fights and walking out of the house often recently, try to follow them on the pretense of apologizing *if they see you following them*. [Read: 10 tips to fight fair in love and get closer after a fight]

#7 Change your sleeping habits. If your partner’s cheating on you, their sleeping habits may change almost overnight. They may stay up longer using the excuse of work, or you may catch them sneaking around the house late at night. Pretend like you’re asleep as soon as you hit the bed, and try to see if your partner’s up to something. Do they get out of bed for long periods of time?

And it’s not just late nights you need to think about. Some cheating partners may even wake up really early and get on the phone, especially if they realize you suspect them.

#8 Does your partner want space? Space is something all of us need in a relationship, whether we accept it or not. But has your partner started getting fiercely protective about their space recently? Do they hate answering questions about where they’ve been or what they’ve been up to? It’s definitely a small warning sign. [Read: How to give the right kind of space and prevent your partner from straying]

#9 They get jumpy. Try walking in on your partner when they least expect it without announcing yourself, especially if they’ve been by themselves for a while. Does your partner act jumpy or nervous when you walk in on them, especially if they’re over the phone or in front of their computer? They were probably doing something and they don’t want you to know what it was.

#10 Changes in schedule. All of a sudden, your partner may stay out a lot of nights on work, or have a lot of get-togethers on their social calendar with their friends. If your partner doesn’t ever invite you with their friends, or if they claim to be very busy working and still look fresh and happy when they get home, your partner’s probably up to something. [Read: 18 emotional affair signs you probably didn't even notice!]

#11 The phone etiquette. Your partner suddenly needs a lot of space while talking over the phone. They either sound awkward or they walk away from you to the next room while talking over the phone with a few people. You may even find text messages from random numbers with random texts in them.

Remember, when people cheat, they could always store the other lover’s number under another name, and use code words to interact with each other when they miss each other!

#12 Gadgets. Your partner has changed most of their passwords, even if you thought you knew all of them. And even when you ask them for the new password, they make an excuse to hide it from you. And sometimes, you may see that they position their computer facing away from you, and they would never do that before. [Confessions: Having an unexpected affair with a married man turned me into a home wrecker!]

#13 Grooming habits. Hitting the gym, wearing new clothes and perfume are all signs your partner wants to look better. But are they going overboard with their appearances? Has your partner started grooming themselves down there meticulously all of a sudden, even though they aren’t keen on doing something with you?

#14 Sneaking away. Does your partner sneak out of the house every now and then, using the silliest of excuses? “I’m driving down to the store to get something…” “My friends are catching up around the corner…” “I’m bored, I’m going for a drive…” or something along those lines?

That’s alright though. But when you offer to tag along, what does your partner say? Do they make an excuse to go alone? That’s fishy, don’t you think? [Read: Emotional cheating and 10 bad ways it can ruin a cheater's life]

4 shady and sneaky unethical ways to catch a cheating lover

Now the earlier 14 signs would definitely help you find out if your partner’s cheating on you with someone else. But if you want to nail them, you’re going to have to catch them in the act. And there’s no way you can do that unless you walk in on your partner with the person they’re cheating on you with. But if you do choose to go spy-mode and use a few unethical ways, here are four ways to nail your partner’s cheating backside in no time.

But try these ways only if you’re already certain your partner’s cheating on you. These steps are great to catch them, but if they aren’t cheating on you and it was just a false alarm, your partner may feel extremely hurt by your actions! [Read: Should you ever confess to cheating on your partner?]

#15 Hidden cameras. Place a spycam in the room where your partner hangs out most often when they want alone time. If they’re over the phone or doing some funny business behind your back, you’ll know soon enough.

#16 Create a fake profile. Create a fake profile and log on to websites that promote cheating spouses and see if your partner’s using one of them. Or for starters, just create a fake facebook profile and add a lot of random friends to make your account seem legitimate.

And then, send an invite to your partner and get friendly with them. And over a few days or weeks, start flirting with them and see how they respond to you. Are they interested in meeting up or hooking up? [Read: Is revenge sex a good way to get back at a cheating partner?]

#17 Keyloggers. Keyloggers are software that you can download off the net *some free and some for a price*. Some of these keyloggers, especially the paid versions, can be installed in a computer and the person using it would never know it’s running in the background.

These programs can record whatever you want, the passwords they use, the letters they type, the pages they visit, or even record a video of the screen as they use the computer. You can also download a few paid apps over your phone and install a secret app in your partner’s phone to keep track of their calls too. [Read: How to end an affair and get over it completely]

#18 GPS device. Are you the one who wants to catch your partner red handed? Then the stalker mode may work for you! Pick up a tiny GPS device that can be fixed to the underside of your partner’s car. You can track their movements and pounce on them when their pants are around their ankles in a sleazy motel out of town! [Read: How to confess to cheating on your partner the right way]

Use these 18 ways on how to catch a cheating partner, and there’s no way a cheater can get away with their adulterous ways. But remember, don’t use the last four ways unless you’re certain your partner’s cheating on you already and you just want to confront them in the act!

Nairobi Has The Most Perfect Climate In The World - MickD

Imagine if you could design your most ideal climate? What would it be like?

For me, it would be like this: Sunny and low 20’s °C nearly every day of the year. Beautiful blue skies. The warmest days accompanied by a nice breeze. Cool evenings, no humidity. And just when things get a little too dry, a rainy season begins. But it is short, and the showers come and go delicately.

That's perfection. I have just described Nairobi. National Geographic once said that Nairobi has the world's "most perfect climate" and I agree.Nairobi is very near the equator but because of the city's elevation (5,8889 feet or 1,795 metres above sea level) extreme weather conditions are prevented.

I am yet to enter a building with air conditioning simply because there is no need for it. It does get very cold in June-August though, when temperatures drop to 10° C.
