The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has again been accused of failing to remit into government accounts, monies it recovered.

The Chief Executive Officer, Panic Alert Security System, George Uboh, while appearing before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition on August 26, had disclosed how the Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, allegedly diverted N2tn it recovered from ex-public officials.

Speaking to journalists yesterday, Uboh said that the commission recovered over N1.7bn from 15 companies for the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, but failed to remit same to the agency.

“FIRS in its submission denied receiving any payments/transfers from EFCC in respect of the said companies.” he said.

Documents Uboh made available to journalists showed that the funds were recovered between 2010 and 2011.

The security expert said members of the public interested in getting details of his earlier N2tn seized by EFCC but unremitted to government should download the documents from his website: www.pasecng.com.

Uboh also expressed his readiness to expose the country’s former presidents, vice presidents, current and ex-governors as well as the current administration over numerous shady practices.

The breakdown of the N1,767,594,842.65 said to have been recovered by the EFCC and list of the 15 companies include Zakhem Construction Limited — N401m; Daewoo Nigeria Limited — N208m; WAPCO — N311m; Mikano International Limited —N16m; Protea Hotel, Apo Apartments — N10m; Reiz Continental Hotels — N32m; Coscharis Motors Limited — N130m; and Elizade Nigeria Limited — N555m.

Others are ITCC Technical Limited, Kaduna — N47m; Grand Ibro Hotel, Abuja — N14m; Efab Properties, Abuja — N19m; Le Meridien Hotel, Port Harcourt – N10m; Northern Nigeria Flour Mills Plc – N2.7m; Ni’ Ima Guest Palace – N2.8m; and Okomu Oil Palm Plc – N5m.y

8 Things Guys Will Do When They Are Seriously In Love

$

I have lots of male friends,in fact I love to keep them as friend even my parent know that very well.In my little study about guys and my interactions with them,I discovered that guys actually could get seriously in love with a girl and when they do,these are the signs

1.He will always want to be with you
It is possible for a guy to be always busy but the truth is,if a guy truly loves a girl,he will try to create time out of his busy schedule just to be with her.

2.He feels so confident about you
That moment when you step into a place and he walks up to you and tell you how georgous you look even though you are not putting on the best of clothes. If he sees beauty in you when others think of you as ugly,That's a sign.

3.When he is willing to wait
He may be one guy who loves sex and loves making out with whoever he dates but when he decides to wait till he is committed "married" before he dig it down with you then it means he thinks of you as special. He loves you..

4.When he introduces you to his friends and family
When a guy loves you,he wont hesitate to do the needful because He feels lucky having you and he is scared of loosing you to another guy.

5.He always want to be seen in public with you by his side
When he takes you out to every occasion he attends,it doesn't mean he is selfish/overprotective of you.it means he feels confident about you and he loves you.He doesn't see the relationship as just a joke and he is ready to invest his time and his resource to build up lovely memories.

6.When he sees you and smile even though he is upset
When your guy seem to be upset with everything and everybody around him but immediately you show up he smiles like kilode........That is a sign that you mean a lot to him.

7.When he respect your privacy and is concerned about your success
when he respect the fact that you need to work or study and in most cases he's willing to burn the night with you just to make sure you achieve your goal successfully. Then he loves you

8.When he tell you crazy things and does crazy things
When he tells you how many times he purged that morning after eating something funny, how had to sneak into the kitchen to taste what you were cooking when you were not looking, when he still kisses from you wen you are not looking....That means he sees you as a friend, confidant and as his love.

Please feel free to add yours,I dedicate this topic to the broken hearted ladies.May you find love

President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Ghana for a one-day working visit.
He arrived at approximately 10am at the Kotoka International airport where he inspected a guard of honour mounted in his honour.

Dressed in his signature wear, Agbada, the Nigerian president was received by his Ghanaian counterpart who also wore his traditional smock.

A throng of Nigerians massed up at the airport under two large banners. Many waved brooms, the party insignia of Buhari’s All Progressives Congress, APC.

The broom signifies the house-cleaning agenda the party intends to embark upon after years of mismanagement and corruption.

There was also drumming and dancing as a sizeable crowd hailed their president.

Buhari is in Peduase Lodge where he is holding bilateral talks with president John Mahama.
The former army general won a closely contested elections in March. Nigeria recorded a democratic first as an opposition party won power from the ruling party through the ballot box.

The Nigerian president known for his strong anti-corruption credentials has publicly declared his assets.

Zenith Bank Sacks Over 1,200 Employees - Premium Times

Today is a sad day for some employees of the Zenith Bank PLC, one of Nigeria’s leading new generation banks, who were served notices terminating their appointments and services.

We are unable to ascertain the actual figure of those affected, with initial report claiming no fewer than 1,200 were involved from all the bank’s branches, while a source close to the bank told Premium Times that about 240 people, including eight General Managers and 40 Assistant General Managers, were affected.

What is, however, clear is that the action swept away most of top management staff in a deliberate attempt by the bank to drastically cut down on its top heavy management structure.

“One thing that is clear is that Zenith Bank is not under any threat,” the source, who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity. “With the current crisis in the banking industry in the country, it is incumbent on any bank that wants to growth to bend backwards to re-strategize and restructure its operations to expand and grow.

“The number might not be as high as is being speculated. But, the decision is not by accident. It is a deliberate one, because the time is ripe for the bank to restructure the management and reposition its operations for greater efficiency and profitability both for shareholders and investors. The decision was inevitable that it had to happen.

“If one looks at Zenith Bank, it was becoming top heavy, with many of the managers earning so much that could have been enough to support the business growth plans. With the action now, there is no doubt that a lot of money would be saved for the bank.”

The source, however denied speculations about the mode of serving notification of sack on the affected staff, saying it was not true that they were informed through text messages.

“A formal meeting was held with the affected staff since Monday this week, where details of their disengagement benefits were discussed and agreement reached,” the source explained.

Zenith Bank says it’s overall vision is to emerge a reputable international financial services network recognized for innovation, superior customer service and performance, while creating premium value for all stakeholders.

With the latest development, the bank joins the growing list of banks in the financial sector of the economy to embark on the restructuring of its staff as a strategy to repositioning for growth.

Recently, Access Bank, which acquired former Intercontinental Bank in the wake of the bank consolidation policy, dispensed with the services of over 1,600 of its workers across the nation, while Mainstreet Bank, one of the three nationalised banks is reported to have equally sent more than 400 of its workers away for a similar reason.

Nigeria's Staunch Belief In New President Being Sorely Tested - Guardian Reporter

By Oluseun Onigbinde

Nigeria’s new president was always going to have his work cut out for him. Some voters placed him on a pedestal, hailing him as the man who would save Africa’s largest but languishing economy.

By his own admission, Muhammadu Buhari is something of a rock star. People cry when they see him, with thousands defying airport security to run on to the tarmac as he flew into Taraba state in March. An 80-year-old food seller from Kebbi state even donated her life savings to his campaign in January, reducing the lanky ex-general to tears. In northern Nigeria, his street name is Mai Gaskiya – one whose word is his bond.

Post-election, the heat is on. Falling oil prices (now below the budget benchmark of $53 per barrel); Boko Haram’s raging insurgency that has claimed more than 13,000 lives; and large-scale corruption have ensured Nigerians are getting tetchy.

After winning by a 2.57 million-vote margin, Buhari was expected to kick off his term by cracking down on corruption and reclaiming some of the $15.7bn that has been taken out of Nigeria illegally in the past decade. Nigerians thought this was a given, noting Buhari’s previous record as military head of state 30 years ago.

But now, the public’s confidence in his ability to root out corruption is waning as Nigerians realise no one seems to be going to jail soon; Buhari’s party has outlined “alleged” corruption scandals in the newspapers, but taken no one to court. He has not formed a cabinet, or provided clear-cut policy directives in critical sectors. His party has enthusiastically welcomed new members from the opposition party, while the National Assembly only sat for 14 days in three months.

So far, Buhari seems to have focused on fighting Boko Haram, giving newly appointed security chiefs a December deadline to end the insurgency; cleaning up the corrupt oil and gas sector by appointing a new head of the state oil company NNPC; and rebuilding Nigeria’s image with strategic diplomatic visits. Clearly, he wants to persuade regional allies to cooperate in the fight against Boko Haram by contributing to a multinational security force. He is also looking into a raft of over-budgeted security contracts for weapons.

Meanwhile, the public’s staunch belief in the integrity of Mai Gaskiya has been taking a hit. The president has declared his assets via a press release, but this still falls short of the standard prescribed by the Code of Conduct Bureau. He has promised to release the full documents soon.

Global development podcast Counting the cost of the Boko Haram crisis - podcast
Listen
Buhari’s decision to wait 90 days before appointing key government officials led to an uproar, with critics saying he favoured people from the north. His aides, in damage control mode, said that more than 6,000 appointments are yet to be announced.

Now focus has begun to shift to the cost of a bloated cabinet. On the ground, ordinary people are bearing the brunt. Since Buhari’s win, the stock market has lost more than $10bn in value, job creation has ebbed, and growth slowed to 2.35% in the second quarter, with the low oil prices in the spotlight. Petrol prices have stabilised but inflation keeps rising and the petrol subsidy debt has risen to $1.57bn: if unchecked, this is likely to lead to another oil workers’ union strike and rise in energy prices.

There are, however, glimmers of hope. Buhari has been decisive in coming to the rescue of states owing salaries, with a bailout of $4m. His new tax boss is Babatunde Fowler, who notably raised tax revenues in the economic capital of Lagos. Fowler has a herculean task; Nigeria’s non-oil tax to GDP ratio is a shameful 4.6%.

Buhari is undoubtedly aware that he has his work cut out for him. Rather than erode public trust by trying hard to deny the magnitude of the promises he made, it would be better to honestly admit that most of them are impossible to fulfil, in the short term. His ability to prioritise and delegate as he forms his cabinet will be the deciding factor. Change will be painful, but to triumph, Buhari must make up for lost time as he unveils his cabinet this month.

Buhari’s supporters say his “body language” – or how his behaviour shapes attitudes in the civil service – is already paying dividends. They say the notoriously erratic power supply is already better, because corrupt officials fear what Buhari might do in the future. However, as Vincent Nwani of Lagos chamber of commerce and industry recently wrote: “Industry operators cannot take investment decisions based on [the president’s] body language.”

First Pure Android From The Nokia: Nokia C1 Unveiled

$

0

Nokia’s future in the smartphone market is somewhat uncertain after Microsoft acquired the company’s Windows Phone branch, but Nokia as a brand is still alive and kicking. Not long ago the company released its first Android-powered tablet dubbed the N1, and there have also been some rumors regarding Nokia’s alleged plans to rejoin the smartphone market on the Android side of things.

In the meantime, it has been settled that the company will indeed go back to manufacturing smartphones … but it’s a bit more complicated than than. Check out our Nokia Back To Smartphones: The Night Of The Living Dead? article for more details

While Nokia did release a handful of Android-powered devices already, the experience they deliver is not even close to what a pure Android device would offer. These low-end terminals – like the Nokia X and XL – run on heavily forked / modified versions of Android, and not in a sense of simple customization.

However, earlier this year there have been some leaks suggesting that Nokia might release a new higher-end smartphone with a more close-to-vanilla Android OS. A so-called “Nokia 1100” was spotted in the Geekbench database too, but while it was listed as an Android 5.0 device, the specifications were not that impressive. On the other hand, there have also been rumors of a so-called “Nokia C1” higher-end smartphone, and more to the point at hand, today we came across a series of renders that might depict the phone’s final design.

Check out below image.

7 Types Of Recruitment Test Candidates In Nigeria

$
0
0
By Toby Nwazor

The first time I wrote a recruitment test was almost two years – after my graduation. I don’t know why they call those things tests. I mean, these so-called tests are way tougher than many degree exams. But, that’s a story for another day…

Since my first time, I have written my fair share of recruitment tests. Some were very tough, while some were way too easy.

The easy tests/interviews usually come from insurance companies who don’t pay any salary. And of course, there are the drug marketing companies where you need to register with about 30,000 Naira first.

From my observation and little experience in recruitment tests and interviews, all the applicants fall into seven main categories.

Here they are in no particular order:

1.The Older Candidates (Agadi ekwe nka)

The tests I have been going for are usually supposed to be for entry level jobs. Yet, I see men and women who are obviously in their late thirties or early forties at the venue.

The same pattern of thoughts usually run through my head: “Ah ah! These people already have jobs, and now they want to come and use their reggae to spoil my blues.”

Well shaa, make I no pour sand-sand for another person garri. The hustle is hard, and everybody get as e dey do dem.

2.The Big Boiz and Gehz

These people come with their cars, and are always blasting loud playing music. They are the people sitting in their A/C cars, eating ice creams and taking selfies while everyone else is drinking cold pure water and okpa di oku under the sun.

Imagine the conconbility!

In my mind, “These ones are not serious. They never even start to dey look for job for this naija. They are enjoying life. They don’t even need any job sef. They just want to do other people akpili ogologo” (show off). But then, what do I know?

3.The Hustlers

These are mainly over-sabi guys who studied engineering courses in school. They usually have the past question papers of the test and will be dishing the answers out to everyone that cares to listen.

You will always find them dressed in blue or black jeans, sneakers, and a polo or t-shirt. They are hard to ignore as they are usually surrounded by other applicants who would be asking them questions as they brandish their knowledge.

You will find them under any tree outside the exam/test hall. If they are not standing, they will be squatting, using their fingers to solve further maths on the ground.

Don’t allow them to intimidate you sha. And don’t follow all they say. Many times, their answers are wrong.

4.The Spiricoco Brethren

These ones come for recruitment tests with their calculators, pens, pencils, and Bibles.

You will know them by how they look. The guys will be seen wearing plain trousers and big shirts that look like parachutes. These shirts are usually short sleeved shirts in primary colours (royal blue, yellow, red), or green.

Then of course there will be a contrasting tie, so big you can use it for a hand fan. And as a rule, they put on shoes that look like Bro. Shoekwuma’s.

As for the girls, if you don’t recognize them by their long flowing skirts, you will spot their head scarves.

They usually stand alone with squinted eyes as if they are seeing vision.

5.The Fresh Graduates

These ones are still fresh, enthusiastic, and very optimistic. They believe that the job is for them and them alone. They probably never had any carry over in school, so they don’t know what it means to fail a test.

They will readily tell you that if there is just one position in the organization, they will clinch it. They are fresh from NYSC and believe that they will never look for jobs, instead jobs will look for them. So they seem very confident.

6.The Connected Candidates

These candidates have all the connection in the company. They start by greeting the security men at the gate, down to the receptionist. Don’t be surprised that they even know some of the HR people.

Worse still, one of the managers may walk in and exchange words with them too.

Sometimes, they got the jobs before the test/interview. Other times, they are just forming.

Ignore them! First of all, you don’t need the intimidation. Secondly, they can’t help you, no matter how connected they are.

7.The Frustrated Candidates

You will know these people by looking at their faces. Their faces dey always look like say smile never pass there in years.

These candidates are always laden with tales of woes. They have experience in all the recruiting agencies and firms in Nigeria. They have written scores of tests and firmly believe that all the jobs have already been given to pre-selected candidates before the recruitment exercise.

They always have negative stories to tell. From how bad the country is, to how costly a cup of garri is in the market. They share their woeful stories like ‘tales by moonlight’. They already ‘know’ that they would not pass the test/interview, but they write it all the same.

Flee from them like a plague else, they will infect you with their frustrationitis.

What do you think? Did I leave any category out? Which one do you belong to if you are a job seeker?
