Benefits Of Having A Verified Social Media Account

I stumbled on this parody Twitter account of President Obasanjo’s with his picture and name on it , I became curious about it so I did a background check on it. I noticed a lot of unusual things about this account. First, it was unverified, secondly it had just about 4,500 followers. At first I thought it was a scam account but I took a closer look at it and I discovered it was actually the parody (fake) Twitter account of former president of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo. I also saw a parody account of IBB. The account is not exactly a dormant account but it was just sitting there like a Twitter account of a secondary school boy. When I probed further, I discovered that it was a new account and posted the first tweet on 2nd of February this year. Another weird thing I noticed is that the official Twitter account of Apc Nigeria is not verified. This has made me to write about the benefits of having a verified Twitter account.



Previously verification has been solely at the discretion of Twitter. You couldn’t request it or really do anything to attract it besides grow as a person or as a brand, to the point where people notice you, and then to the point where Twitter notices you. This meant that verified users were all verified through direct notice and intervention on the part of Twitter themselves. But now Twitter has opened up it’s verification process so you can actually apply for it if you feel you are popular enough on social media. Techcapon.com is going to explain the dangers of Obasanjo not having his account verified and also the benefits of getting your account verified. Of course, it is not open to everyone, it is only open for popular people for now but maybe in future, it will be open for everyone.


Dangers:

1. Identity theft:

A powerful figure like Obasanjo is quite popular all over the world and the fact that his personal Twitter account is not verified can pose a big threat as fraudsters and Nigerian yahoo boys can easily clone the account and use it for their own selfish purposes. . A phisher could impersonate your account and then start sending messages to your followers and defraud theme easily. All they need to do is create a parody of your own personal account and they’re good to go.

2. Lack of public trust :

If your account is not verified, it will make you not to have the trust of other users. Imagine this parody account of Obasanjo says slides into a lady’s DM, she’ll be very stupid if she thinks it’s the real person behind it.



Benefits of getting verified social media accounts :

1. Prevents identity theft:

Like I said before, yahoo boys are very manipulative. One of the ways they succeed is by stealing identities of others. They can wreck havoc if given the opportunity.

2. Increase your followers as more people tend to trust verified accounts

3. Protects your reputation:

I have seen a parody account of Donald Trump saying rubbish on Twitter, the only thing that’ll tell you it’s a fake account is that it lacks the verification mark. If your account is verified, your online and offline reputation will be protected as fake parody of your account can be identified.



4. It is a sign of Trust and love among the Twitter community:

Having that blue checkmark on your Twitter account is a great sign of trust and love among the Twitter community because people who don’t know you personally will be comfortable dealing with you because they know you must be important enough for you to have that verification. It’s like a medal of honor.

5. It is a symbol of authority and accountability:

Having thousands of followers on Twitter doesn’t mean you have authority or accountability because we know that those figures can be easily manipulated using basic softwares but being verified on Twitter shows the world that you have passed some form of integrity test and that you are high profile enough. This therefore separates you from the average Twitter users and establishes your authority on the Twitter community.

FIRS: Tax Revenue Hits N2.52tr In Six Months

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced that it realised N2.52 trillion from various taxes from January to June 2018.

The amount showed that the Service had realised 75 per cent of its total target for the year, which is an improvement over what was realised in the corresponding period in 2017.

A report on the revenue performance by the Agency, submitted to the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, confirmed that the figure represented an increase of N746 billion, representing 42 per cent when compared to the N1.7 trillion total tax revenue realised in the corresponding period in 2017.

An analysis of the total amount shows that N1.6 trillion was collected as Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) as against N636 billion resulting in a variance of N532 billion.

From the company income tax (CIT), the FIRS realized a total of N680 billion, which was N128 billion more than the N551 billion in the previous year. The Value Added Tax (VAT) yielded a total of N536 billion in the period under review, which was N68.8 billion more than the N467 billion realised in 2017.

Total, Mobil, Others Yet To Remit N6tr Oil Revenue

The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating revenue leakages in the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) at the weekend said about N6 trillion from gas sales and royalties is yet to be remitted to the Consolidated Revenue Fund by oil majors operating in the country.

According to the committee Chairman, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe (PDP, Cross River) the leakages were the result of the faulty Production Sharing Contract (PSC), which gives room for the oil firms to fleece Nigeria of billions of naira revenue.

Specifically, he said the committee uncovered over US$8 billion unremitted accrual from gas sales by Total Oil & Gas Limited between 2007 and 2017; US$170 million by Mobil; US$34 million by Neconde; among others.

“The Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) is faulty and does not provide for the remittance of the proceeds from gas sales. It gives room for most of the oil companies to fleece our revenues.

In the Bonga Field, Total alone has over US$8 billion unremitted gas sales to the Consolidated Revenue Fund between 2007 and 2017. Mobil owes over

US$170m on gas sales from Bonny Terminal; Neconde owes about $34 million in royalty,” the chairman stated.

He also said records from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), JP Morgan, signature bonuses, concession rentals, crude oil, gas and flaring royalties, revealed that Sterling Global Oil Resources Ltd, has no evidence of payment of crude oil and gas sales, despite operating in the upstream sector of the oil industry.

The lawmaker equally frowned at the level of impunity by the oil majors and other actors in the oil industry, and called for total overhaul of the PSC.

As a result, he added, the ad hoc committee has summoned the management of five oil firms namely; Sterling Global Oil Resources Ltd, Neconde Energy Ltd, ND Western Limited, Newcross E & P and Allied Energy Ltd., to provide their evidence of payment of royalties.

“We think all the funds have to be remitted to the Consolidated Revenue Fund. So, we have asked NNPC and DPR to make their submissions to the committee.

I can confirm to you that if we get the fund, the Federal Government will borrow less to finance the deficit budget,” Jarigbe said.

Responding to questions on the non-enforcement of extant laws regulating the oil industry, the lawmaker said there are sanctions such as suspension of export permits, but that there must be political will by the executive to enforce them.

'Saraki Betrayed APC, He's A Traitor & A Double Agent"- APC Deputy National Secretary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Yekini Nabena, has described Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, as a double agent.

In a statement he personally signed, Nabena challenged Sen. Saraki to declare where he belongs in the current realignments going on in the APC.

Nabena said that though he is free to associate with whomsoever he chooses, he must do so in accordance with the rules of the game, and not try to destroy the party.

He further accused the senate president of betraying the trust of the party by sponsoring rebellion within it, arguing that he learnt nothing from his original betrayal of APC in 2015, when he emerged senate president against the wishes of the party and through manipulative processes that denied the party its right to produce the deputy senate president.

“In recent times, there have been attempts to discredit the leadership of the APC and the Federal Government it controls by a roguish alliance of forces within and outside the party.

“The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has loomed large in this scheme. Saraki has never hidden his sympathy for those who have launched a vicious attack on the APC, a party that gave both him and the nascent mudslingers the platform on which they ply their political careers.

“The APC is not averse to dissenting positions. But we reject deceit in every shade or form. Saraki must declare now where he belongs, whether he is for APC or other political interests.

“He cannot serve God and mammon. He cannot play hide-and-seek. He cannot hide behind his fingers. We are aware that a number of Saraki’s aides and close allies have left APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“For example, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje has returned to his former home in PDP; Saraki’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed has withdrawn his membership from APC.

“We are also not unaware of the fact that Saraki is the brawn and the brains of the so-called Reformed All Progressives Congress (rAPC).

“The senate president’s current activities are a betrayal of his position at the last national convention of APC, where he urged the new leadership of the party to carry everyone along in the effort to improve the party and enhance its chances ahead of the impending political contests in the country.

“When he made those comments, we had thought he was sincere and that he would follow through his counsel. But, alas, we were wrong.

“It is clear that Saraki has not learnt any lessons from his initial betrayal of APC in 2015, when he traded off the party’s right to produce the deputy senate president for his selfish ambition of becoming the senate president.

“APC is a democratic institution and Saraki is free to make choices in accordance with the laws of the country. But he cannot continue to take members of APC for a ride.

“Politics is based on trust. Saraki has betrayed the trust reposed on him by the party. If he wants to leave APC, let him leave peacefully, and not try to destroy a house that gave him accommodation when he needed it most. His current attitude can only be the action of a traitor or a double agent,” the statement read.

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (born 16 July 1990), known professionally as Wizkid (sometimes stylised as WizKid), is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. "Workers’ Salary Arrears Will Be Paid In Six Months"– Fayemi

The winner of the Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said that he will pay the backlog of salaries owed civil servants in the state within the first six months of his return to office.

Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress beat Kolapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party in a keenly contested race to succeed the incumbent Governor Ayodele Fayose.


Speaking at his residence in Isan-Ekiti, the former Minister of Solid Mineral Development, said Ekiti State lost value under Fayose, while also promising to re-introduce free education in the state.

He said, “Ekiti people should expect the eight-point agenda redoubled. They should expect the backlog of salaries cleared within the first six months of my coming to the office. They should expect re-introduction of free education, including payment of fees for the West Africa Examination Council, National Examination Council, National Business and Technical Examinations Board and the national entrance examination into tertiary institutions which they lost out on.


“We will re-introduce social security scheme for the elderly in an enhanced manner. They should expect the return of our youth volunteer programme. Luckily, the Federal Government has started a programme similar to what we used to have in Ekiti State, called N-Power. We will add our own initiative to that programme.

“The outgoing government is not interested in what happens to the young in our society beyond using them as thugs and forcing them to eat crumbs from the table of the master. They should expect a return to decency, decorum, integrity, values in Ekiti State. It is about reclaiming our land and restoring our values which we have lost in the past four years.”

Meanwhile, an APC chieftain, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has congratulated Fayemi on his victory at the poll.

According to the former Minister of State for Works, Fayemi’s victory will change the leadership style in the state, stressing that the people of Ekiti deserved mature leaders who value development of state’s human and natural resources.

Ekiti Election: Coalition Of Observers Reject Results, To Release Findings

LEADERSHIP - Coalition of observer groups and Civil Society Organisations that observed and monitored the Saturday July 14th Governorship elections in Ekiti State have condemned the announcement of the All Progressives Congress APC candidate John Kayode Fayemi as the winner of the elections .

In a press statement , the group said the election does not reflect what they saw on ground and its will open up on the true findings coming Wednesday 18 th July 2018 with details of the malpractices that greeted the election .
The Coalition in a press statement signed by its contact persons Comrade Haruna Farouk and Nze Adachi Okoro said it was regrettable that the Independent national Electoral Commission as well as the security agencies could be used to short change the people of the state the way they did on the day of the elections.

The Coalition said it has gathered evidence that will show how the election was massively rigged describing the situation as a sad moment for democracy in the country.

“ We have evidences of election malpractices where a particular party in connivance with security personnel went about inducing electorates with cash and coercing them to snap the ballot papers in order to receive cash gifts from the agents of the party in question .


“ The level of intimidation that occurred during the elections on Saturday was disheartening and shouldn ’ t be allowed to stand in modern day Nigeria. We witnessed a situation where loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and its agents were harassed and intimidated so as to make it difficult for them to participate in the elections .

“ Other incidence that we recorded will be made open in our findings which will definitely shock Nigerians and expose the conspiracy of INEC , Security agents and the APC to deprive the people of Ekiti from expressing their constitutional rights . ”

The Coalition called on the international community to condemn what it called the ‘ political terrorism ’ that took place against the people of Ekiti state on Saturday stressing that their voice against the actions of the Federal Government , INEC and Security agents will help put pressure on the government to do the right thing .

Rescued Thailand Boys Pay Tearful Respect To Dead Navy Seal Diver (Photos)

The Thai boys evacuated from the flooded cave have paid their respects to the former Navy Seal diver who died trying to save them.

The 12 youngsters and their football coach were not told that Saman Kunan had drowned ahead of their dramatic rescue from the Tham Luang cavern just days ago.


His dramatic death convinced the Thai authorities for the need to call back the British cave-diving experts to lead the 'mission impossible' to save the boys.


But now doctors have decided the boys, aged between 11 and 16, are well enough to learned of the former Thai Navy Seal's personal sacrifice for them.


'All of the boys who were evacuated from the cave have been informed of the death of one of the rescuers,'

Dr Jesada Chockbamrungsuk, who is in charge of their treatment announced.'


All of the boys cried and were in tears when they found out.'

One boy covers his face as he cries.


Ekkapol Chantawong, the 25-year-old football coach who led the ill-fated outing into the cave, wipes away tears with a clenched fist.








The survivors expressed their thanks to the Thai Navy Seal by bowing to his picture.

86 Cattle Rustled, Fulani Teenager Missing In Plateau

Security agents in Plateau State are searching for a 13-year- old Fulani boy and 86 cattle suspected to have been rustled near Bisichi village and moved into Foron in Barkin Ladi local government area of the state on Friday evening.

The boy was said to be tending to the cattle alongside an adult but went missing after his companion went into Bisichi village to get them something to eat.

Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), the security taskforce in charge of maintaining law and order in the state, yesterday said a team had been set up to curb the area in search of the missing boy and the cattle.

Media and Information Officer of OPSH, Major Adam Umar, told Daily Trust on phone that the incident had been reported by MACBAN secretary in Barkin Ladi and that the search team include security agents and locals who know the terrain.

Earlier, MACBAN Secretary in Barkin Ladi, Abubakar Gambo had told our correspondent that the incident occurred around 5:00pm and that the cattle had left visible hoof prints that have been tracked to Foron.

Gambo said the member representing the area in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Peter Gyendeng had visited to calm them while the State Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie and his team had also visited the scene.

Daily Trust reports that the MACBAN chairman in the state, Muhammad Nura Abdullahi had in early July written a letter to Governor Simon Bako Lalong notifying him of the rustling of 28 cows from Langai in Mangu into Barkin Ladi’s Fan district. Five days later, the police confirmed irate Berom youths had attacked a Fulani settlement adjacent the Police Staff College in Jos South. The police commissioner immediately met with Berom and Fulani leaders and warned that such acts of criminality would not be tolerated.

Customs Officer Kills Two Colleagues In Lagos

A Customs Officer attached to the Seme Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Lagos reportedly crushed his colleagues, in a tragic accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Saturday.

The deceased were in a Toyota Camry with the number plate, YLA 121 BJ at a checkpoint, when they were crushed by their colleague, who drove a Toyota Avalon, with number plate, YAB 366 JY. It was gathered that the two crushed customs officers died on the spot, while the driver of the Avalon was said to be unconscious at the Intensive Care Unit of the Badagry General Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.

While an eyewitness alleged that the accident was caused by a burst tyre, security sources confirmed that the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, led by the Badagry unit Commander, Fatai Bakare, has deposited the remains of the deceased in a morgue.
The eyewitness said;

 “The incident happened around 7.45am on Saturday at Gbaji checkpoint. The customs officers were crushed to death by a Toyota Avalon driven by another customs officer of the same command.

“His car was descending the Gbaji Bridge and heading for Seme when one of his tyres burst. He lost control, thereby sending the two officers to their death.”

Speaking to newsmen, the customs unit commander, Bakare, however, said the accident was caused by speeding.

“The customs officers were inside their vehicle at one of the checkpoints on the Lagos-Seme Road. The driver of the Avalon was on top speed when he crashed into them. He veered off the road and rammed into them. The two customs officers died on the spot, while the man responsible for the accident is in a coma" he said.

Saidu Abdulahi, the Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Seme Command who confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Usman and Kabiru,also confirmed that the driver of the Avalon was a customs officer and identified him as George.

He said, “On Saturday, July 14, 2018, I received reports of an incident involving three officers of the Seme Area Command at Gbaji checkpoint. Usman and Kabiru were involved in a ghastly motor accident which resulted in their fatalities.

“The driver of the other vehicle, George, is currently on admission at a general hospital.”

Obasanjo Pledges To Lead Coalition Against Buhari, Explains PDP Exit

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday, vowed to lead the coalition that would unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

The former President, however, advised the 39 political parties and associations, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding in a grand alliance ahead of general elections last Wednesday, to be cautious of external forces which he believed might want to destabilise the arrangement.

Obasanjo spoke during a closed-door meeting with a 21-man team, led by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, which visited him in Abeokuta on Saturday.

The meeting was held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, the Ogun State captial.

Among those at the meeting were the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin; a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George; a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and members of the National Working Committee of the PDP.

A source at the meeting, who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity, said the ex-President told the gathering that he was ready to lead the coalition that would sack Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.

Obasanjo was also said to have told them that he played a prominent role in the formation of the coalition that met in Abuja last week where the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to field a single presidential candidate in 2019.

The source added, “The former President asked the attendees (at the MoU signing) to get ready for a fight in 2019 and that he is ready to lead the coalition.

“He told us that it would not be a tea party, and that we should be ready to field a single presidential candidate and that all others would line up behind such candidate.

“He also warned us against saboteurs and that we must be ready to make sacrifices.”

It was also gathered that the former President told his visitors why he left the PDP.

According to multiple sources at the meeting, Obasanjo said he left the former ruling party when a sitting governor was busy abusing him and the leaders of the party refused to caution him.

“He said he decided to leave because the governor (name withheld ) was abusing him and we refused to caution him. He said the governor was also mobilising people to remove him as the chairman of the BoT. He said he decided to leave when we didn’t do anything about these,” the source added.

However, the media aide to the ex-President, Kehinde Akinyemi, in a statement after the meeting, quoted Obasanjo to have advised his guests that all members of the political parties in the PDP-led alliance “must be cautious of fake news, rumours, blackmail and seeds of discord that may be sown among them from external quarters.”

The PDP, African Democratic Congress, the Reformed All Progressives Congress and 36 other political parties had, last week, signed a MoU to forge a grand alliance ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Obasanjo, who expressed confidence in the arrangement, advised that the individuality and independence of each political party must be respected by all parties concerned.

He had added that “it is also desirable that in the process of implementing the MoU to achieve the set objective, solidarity and focus on the objective must be maintained.

“The MOU for grand alliance is what it says – a grand alliance. It is not a merger nor an absorption of any political party by any political party.”

According to the statement, in the delegation were some members of the NWC of the PDP, who apologised to the former President for the way he was treated by the former ruling party.

While the former President told them he would no longer play partisan politics, he stated that his doors would remain opened to those who might need his advice on the way to move the country forward.

While speaking with journalists after the meeting, Secondus said though Obasanjo was no more a member of the PDP, his advice would help the party as the 2019 elections draw near.

He said, “Obasanjo is a national leader in this country. He is a father of the nation. So, we came to consult him. Our deliberation, although a little bit private, is connected to the 2019 polls.

“Yes, it is true Baba is no longer a member of the PDP, but he is a father of the nation. I believe that regardless of political parties, his direction is highly needed now to rescue Nigeria.”

George equally said the grand alliance was needed to rescue the country from the precipice, saying good managers were needed to manage the affairs of the country better.
